Mind you, Ive been selling on ebay for years, Ive never heard of an echeck.
Im looking through my listing, and I find this:

    Immediate Payment
Require immediate payment through PayPal when a buyer uses Buy It Now
    (the below are unchecked)
    Credit cards

    Skrill
    ProPay

    Other payment methods
    Receive payment upon pickup

Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now

I also have these Buyer requirements:

    Buyer requirements Buyer requirements help

    Block buyers who:
    • Don't have a PayPal account
    • Have received 2 unpaid item strike(s) within 1 month(s)
    • Have a feedback score equal to or lower than -1
    • Have bid on or bought my items in the last 10 days and have met my limit of 1 and who have a feedback score of 3 or lower

Im sure I lose some possible sales with all these restrictions, but its kept me out of disputes.
I think the mandate of a paypal account kept me from seeing echecks.
But I dont know if ebay works differently down under.

eChecks (eCheques) ARE actually sent from a registered Paypal account holder so maybe you just haven't been unfortunate enough to be sent one. They still come from buyers with a Paypal account, but they are buyers who can't or won't link a credit card as a back-up payment. That means that Paypal won't give you the money instantly, and make you wait until they actually have the money from the buyers bank account. They have no creditcard to use as a secondary payment source. Fortunately they almost never crop up, as most people have a creditcard linked to their Paypal account.

I just got the clearance notification from Paypal/eBay (even though it cleared last night). You would think that an international banking organisation could spell "should" correctly wouldn't you? It must be a word they use often!

An eCheque payment to you has cleared

    Dear Mark,

The eCheque from Billy Xxxx for $125.69 AUD has cleared, and the money is now available in your PayPal account.

If you haven't already sent the item, it shoud be sent to:

    Postage Details

I had a feeling this one was going to go alright for you as I said. But it was a stressful ordeal, could nearly drive one to drinking.

I get stressed every time I send out a $50 item to an international location. Because I don't use tracking or registered mail on $50 and below items. I just got feedback on a $50 LP sent to Russia. Thank god it arrived.

My ebay days ended when I sold a turntable to some buyer. He paid with his CC. After the table arrived, he did a charge back. I pleaded my case and lost. Out my $225 plus added fees. His bank makes the final call. CC's are not any safer.

Well, did you use tracking or insurance on the item?

I hav recently had a similar experience to this
They sent me payment by paypal - not an echeck, regular paypal-
I sent the item - a few days later it said in essence the paypal bounced.
Have not been able to reach them. They are in Canada I am in the US. Is there anything I can do to get law enforcement involved?

eBay and PayPal are not very sympathetic if you sent something before the payment clears, and before they have said its OK to ship the item to the buyer. If the reversal happened after they told you to send it I think you would qualify for buyer protection. But, you normally have to have proof of it being sent via a tracked service. If you sent it by regular airmail then your prospects of them refunding you are not good.
