I visited the Alamo a few years ago with a group, and everyone was making "when do we see the basement" jokes. No one had to explain why.

My takeaway has always been watching my mom lose it when he's rescuing the animals in the pet store and saves the snakes for last.

Remember trying to see it the weekend it opened and it was sold out and had to wait until the following weekend to get to see it.

Great movie, but I'll rank it just slightly behind the original Roxy Theater performance that was on HBO waaay back in the day. Probably one of the first appearances of Phil Hartman that I can recall, plus a cameo from Cruzados lead singer Tito Larriva.

I have never been to Texas but when I do, I am going to sing that in the middle of a big Texas crowd hoping I get the same reaction as Pee Wee!

The deep voiced overdub of Pee-wee's voice in the hotel lobby is hilarious. "Paging Mr Herman". LOL

I caught the HBO special as well.

Love the scene where PeeWee had mirrors on his shoes attempting to look up Miss Yvonne's dress..."Look, Miss Yvonne, I can see your underwear"..."I'm not wearing any underwear, PeeWee"...Pee Wee gasps and pulls back quickly in revulsion. I freakin' lost it LOL!

THE FUNNIEST punchline ever! Anyone remember what line Brolin delivers in repartee with Morgan Fairchild?

One of the all-time great comedies.

Has there ever been a more disappointing "sequel" than "Big Top Pee-Wee"? :sigh:

Is Big Top better than Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday? Holiday starts out well, then abruptly falls apart at the start of the second day (when Pee-Wee meets the traveling salesman) and only recovers at the end - the night of the fifth day and the epilogue.

If only Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg had been available, it could have been better.

I've never even heard of "Pee-Wee's Big Holiday"!

All I know is that "Big Top" was one of the most disappointing films I'd ever seen.

At least 1988 made it clear that the creative genius behind "Big Adventure" was Tim Burton!

No, it's totally true – he really didn't surpass it.

    Big Top has its fans.

And you could easily say the inverse – that without Pee Wee as his subject, Burton never repeated his success.

May God have mercy on their souls!

While "PWBA" remains my favorite Burton film, he nonetheless has made a bunch of other very good to excellent movies.

    He wasn't a one-trick cinematic pony...

Except that he did, many times. Big Adventure is number 14 on Burton's movie gross list. Close to the bottom in fact. If inflation is taken into account it's at the median point.

Well if you measure success in $$$ I just can't argue with you. I can't be held responsible for the inverse relationship between success as art and success as money – at least not in this case. Johnny Depp or Pee Wee Herman. Take your pick.
