People, I love ya but there is no such word as VINYLS. It's "VINYL", no 's' at end.

It has already been demonstrated several times that "vinyls" is an existing, correct, real word.

    So is 'ain't'.

'Vinyls' is stupid, too, until it becomes common practice.

Does anybody know the etymology of the use of the word vinyls as it pertains to "records"? I don't and I'm just curious as to how and when this came about.

Correctly or not, when I hear it, I just assume English isn't the person's first language.

Don't know why I'm jumping into this futile debate. Maybe it's because I share a similar pet peeve in my industry where some people annoyingly refer to a set of computer program source as "codes." To me it's program "code" (singular), no matter the quantity.

As for the quoted definition above, I think that is an example where someone is referring to different kinds of vinyl -- hence vinyls. However, when it comes to recordings, we are talking about one kind -- hence vinyl.

Well, that def above does indeed say records and vinyls. The only reasonable way for everyone to settle this I think is with fists.

It may be a more that one. Sounds wrong after 60 years. I'm going to buy some Vinyl's or I'm going to buy some record's. They are Fricking RECORDS.

Ok, that's enough of the Vinyls debate. Now let's start one on the proper spelling of Friggin' :hide:

Exactly. An existing, correct, real word that marks the user as one with no original experience with the format, but rather the second phase hipster revival. But when did that start? My sense is that it was the second half of the '90s or later.

Vinyl is an adjective, vinyl records, it doesn't make sense to say 4 vinyls regardless

Throw an "s" on the end and, voila, it makes sense.

Maybe the s from 'Brings' ambled down the street to hang out with his friend 'Vinyl'.

Is that too esoteric? That might be too esoteric.

What about those of us who think even vinyl is too removed from the mastering engineer's work, and only use a reverse spinning turntable and one of those special dual-diamond Shure cartridges to play stampers?

you have to think plural, if you have more than one vinyls, it's technically vinyls's.
