Does it say Made in West Germany by Polygram? If so, I'm not sure if the PDO will make a difference as far as peak levels are concerned.

The peak levels for the UK Ein Deutsches seem somewhat similar to the Target CD, no? And how many tracks are listed on the back of the CD?
May be level adjusted from Target, yes. 9 tracks listed on rear insert of this one. After 16 minutes in Secure mode, EAC reported 95.5 for track 1, so: 6) Ein Deutsches Album - Virgin/Charisma xcdscd 4019 [Nimbus UK] (Lists 9 tracks): 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.4% - 95.5% - 26.6% - 92.7%
Can you identify which track doesn't belong? If you need the standard track listing, let me know. Actually, I don't know if I can help since it's in German!
Wait, I think I found the problem. Your Ein Deutsches CD is Peter Gabriel III, not IV! IV is simply Deutsches (without the Ein). Looks like it's not a level shifted target. It does look pretty similar to the V/C of III, though.
I took French not German in school - you are correct about it being III (Melt) - duhhh one of those days, sorry Listing is as follows: 1 Eindringling 2 Keine Selbstkontrolle 3 Frag mich nicht immer 4 Schnappschub (ein familienfoto) 5 Und durch den draht 6 Spiel ohne grenzen 7 Du bist nicht wie wir 8 Ein normales leben 9 Biko III (Melt) Ein Deutsches Album - Virgin/Charisma xcdscd 4019 [Nimbus UK] (Lists 9 tracks): 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.5% - 95.4% - 95.5% - 26.6% - 92.7%

Looks are very deceiving, My error. The PGCD4 is a Blue-Faced 'Made In U.K. By PDO' Front label has '(800-091-2) PGCD4' on it. What's funny is that it still doesn't match the track listing of the US counterpart. According to Wikipedia, for the Ein Deutsches Album (III) Gabriel just basically overdubbed the English version, with a few differences (as shown on the track listing). But for Deutsches (IV), Gabriel went in and changed a bunch of stuff on the recording. No wonder for that disc the peak levels are so different than the US counterparts. Thanks for the info. I was able to edit it in to the previous updated list. Regarding the Blue Face, now I'm confused. Is there a WG Polygram disc? Regardless, it seems it's all the V/C mastering.
I would think there is one out there, since this disc has the 800 series number on the front, but I've never had the WG, personally. Here's my UK PDO:
Okay, I see what you have now. I'm pretty sure that there is a WG Blue Face disc, but maybe it's not a Polygram. Perhaps someone else has it and will chime in. Again, it's more or less an early Virgin disc and it has the V/C mastering. Thanks!
I had PGCD5 (SO) and it wasn't as good as the black triangle. They did not sound the same: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=47934
"Start" is included as part of "Frag mich nicht immer" (i.e., "I Don't Remember") with a track time of 6:04.
May end up similar to what we found for the '80's King Crimson. WG made discs are unique, regardless of label and country of distribution. First US made and marketed discs are unique, maybe a tweaked version of the WG. First UK made discs are an entirely new third mastering. Black Triangles mirror the UK's, but some are tweaked as well. This is all before the "Definitive" '89 re-masters! I'm not saying Peter will mirror this exactly, just that early masterings are all over the place. I've come to the conclusion that the So Virgin PGCD 5 either must have been marketed in the US, or imported in big numbers. I found several in the used bins of four different shops today, they are more numerous then early Geffen copies. I'll catch up with the numbers a bit later.
It seems there may be one mastering of So that has some level shifted versions (not counting the remaster of course).
Court, Discipline, Beat, & ToaPP came out first on WG Polydor. The full catalogue followed a few years later on UK E'G. Since So was released in '86 when CD manufacturing was starting to settle down a bit, it might make sense to only find one mastering. Plus it was the first time he really had a US hit. Wikipedia lists 500k US sales each for III & IV, 5mil for So.
I think that's what's going on with So, I A/B'd the Black Triangle with the Geffen U.S. CD, and it was the same to my ears. I have a feeling with the first 3 albums on V/C, that there was level shifting going on the CD's that top out at 95%. I have the picture disc box set(I lent it out and haven't seen it in almost 2 years), but I recall the discs having 0.00dB/100% levels on the loudest tracks. They were either PMDC France or DADC Austria, I'll have to track them down. That original Geffen U.S. mastering of Peter Gabriel 3 (Melt) is very strange. 'I Don't Remember' when folded-down to mono, the treble cancels itself out, and sounds like an AM radio.
Whoa, that's weird. And the UK Virgin doesn't do that? Invert one channel, then fold down, and it's really trippy. (I'm a little shy on sleep here )
