Like in the title. I would like to ask Your recomendation about PG's albums on CD. What do You think about 2002 remastered editions? (serial numbers PGCDR1,2,3 etc). How do they look compared to earlier pressings (PGCD1,2,3,4)? I see that the 2002 ones were remastered by the same guy that did Genesis remixes in 2007, so I wanted also make sure if this Gabriel's ones from 2002 are not remixes? Thanks in advance for opinions

 Sorry, not much help. I've only heard the originals but I've not been unhappy with them either.

The 2002 remasters are not remixes, no. As for the sound quality, they vary album by album. There was a discussion on this subject recently, but in general I like the remasters.

I have always been unhappy with my CD copy of SO. I think its from the 90s. I picked up the 25th anniversary release recently. Hope its better sounding.

I prefer the original non remastered CD's - the 2002 remasters are compressed. PG I sound a bit thin compared to the vinyl on the original CD but the rest is a joy!

It carries the same peaks as most of the world. All 100% except for track 6 (Mercy Street).
A Japan for US JVC and I think a Canadian have peaks under 100.
Probably just re-leveled. I'm thinking just one mastering was done as they all sound pretty similar.

Maybe, I have a few versions they are at the same sound level.
But I have listened to the black triangle and the separation and depth are better than the other versions.

Does anybody know maybe if the 2002/3 and 2010/11 editions of remsters (PGCDR) are the same in terms of sound?

The 2011 version of So and Us sound louder than the 2003 versions.
I prefer the originals but the 2003 are alright.

The early CDs certainly suck as far as sound goes. Are there actually good ones out there? I have a number of the Classic Records LP reissues and the mastering is great.

I like the original CDs much better than the remasters. Remasters are louder so make sure to volume compensate if you are comparing.

I do like the EQ choices of the remasters (and PGII has greater stereo separation IIRC) and, while they're not the most compressed remasteres I've ever heard, it is to the detriment of the overall sound, IMO. To be honest, the PG remasters vs originals debate isn't quite as clear cut as it is for other artists.

Original CDs sound the best to me. 2012 CD reissue of So is too loud to my ears.

If it matters to you, the remaster of So revises the track ordering (not in a good way). The original CD contains the correct order. Not sure what the box version used; I would guess the same as the remaster.

Let me say that the US CDs suck. And if you don't think so, you probably haven't heard the first few albums on original UK pressings in a good, well setup system. My wife, not an audiophile, has heard the difference.

This thread is dedicated to cd i will not go into the analog versus digital debate.
    It's pointless to do so.
My audio set is fine ann my original Peter Gabriel cd's are good sounding. i prefer them over the later remasters.

I have the UK Nimbus of the earlier releases and they sound good to my ears. The couple of remasters I did hear sounded a bit harsh. I have dipped in to a couple of the sacds however and they sound pretty okay. Go figure.

I added that knowing how good the original recordings can sound. The US CDs don't sound nearly as good.

Interesting. None the less, here are the levels from my original 80s copy of So:
    98.0 / 99.2 / 96.7 / 96.5 / 98.6 / 87.8 / 98.3 / 97.7 / 97.6
They're all mutually exclusive, whatever that may signify. How does it sound? Great, to me. :)
