Details are still scarce, but the long rumored collection seems to be close to fruition.

Smog Veil Records' Peter Laughner Boxset Closer to Completion

    From the article:

"I want to be certain that this box set, the definitive statement of the life and work of Peter Laughner, is as perfect as it can be,” says label owner Frank Mauceri in a press release. “If it takes a little extra time to get this released, just be assured that it is for the better. We spared no expense. Fans will notice the care we put into this. Test pressings have been approved and final layouts are in process. We appreciate the patience that everyone has shown and want you to know the reward will be worth the wait."

The article quotes from a press release, but I haven’t been able to find it online yet.

No mention of it on the Smog Veil site either. Considering they've been working on this for 10 years, it should be great. Very happy that there will be a book enclosed that will have some of his writing.

My guess is that it will be limited. Much as I've been looking forward to it, how many people are actually interested in shelling out for this?

Certainly won't get the audiophile demographic.

    Their loss.:)
Now if only John Petkovic (sticking with the Cleveland area) would get it together for a much needed Death Of Samantha reissue series.

Wow, thanks for the post @DeeThomaz

I'd never heard of Peter Laughner, but just looked him up after seeing this thread. Having now heard a few of his acoustic songs, I'm wrecked. Couple of the best "new" things I've heard in a long time. I'll be looking for more of the acoustic songs.

Glad to see this is on the horizon. They interviewed one of my old band mates for the liners about 7 years ago.
Hopefully the SQ will be an upgrade from all the tapes I've had in the collection since the early 80's.

I gave up on this - huge fan of the whole Cleveland scene from that period. I don't care what it costs I'm in

Fantastic set! I only have the CD version, so I've yet to hear his covers of Dylan's "Pledging My Time" and "Visions of Johanna" (!). Fortunately, the third track exclusive to the vinyl edition ("What Love Is") is also on the Rocket From The Tomb compilation, so I've good there.

I'll need to try and find it when I get home but I saw a pack shot on Twitter over the weekend. 5 themed discs, IIRC.

According to the Facebook page, this will be the cover of the book. Great photo.

This is great news, I missed out on buying the records and CDs from way back, so this is my much needed second chance.

Ah, you've found it. Sorry, I was in the office earlier and couldn't go looking for it. Still, really good news this is finally happening.

No problem! I wouldn’t have known to look if you didn’t bring it to our attention. Made my morning to get an update. Hopefully the full details will be sooner rather than later in May.

Based on the photo, the titles for the five discs are:

    Fat City Jive: 1972
    Pledging My Time: 1973-1977
    One of The Boys: 1973-1974
    Rock It Down: 1974-1977
    Nocturnal Digressions: 1977

Given the overlapping dates, I’m not sure if I listed them in the correct order. Perhaps these subtitles & dates will be enough for fans more knowledgeable than me to piece together the theme of each disc?
