As a long time TPATHB fan all I can say is Wow. I saw them on that '87 tour when the Del Fuegos and The Georgia Satellites opened (30 and 45 min sets respectively). Very intriguing that Zanes has written this book. Needless to say I'll have to pick it up!

KinkySmallFace1991 Will you come back to me, Sweet Lady Genevieve?

This sounds like it will be Tom Petty's version of Had Me A Real Good Time: The Faces Before During And After. That was one of the best books I ever purchased. This book sounds like it will be the Tom Petty version of that book. Count me in

I remember Tom alluding to dabbling in heroin so I'm not too surprised. I'll be buying this for sure.

Why didn't someone write a good Petty biography sooner.

I wonder if Wilburys are covered

It was pretty evident. He moved to a shack that had holes in the walls, got divorced, neglected his career, the whole enchilada.

I'm more excited reading the Heartbreakers old drummer Stan Lynch giving his first interview in couple decades.

^ That and it was written by Warren Zanes of the Del Fuegos. I'll definitely check this one out.

hard to say no to drugs at a Tom Petty show unless you bring an oxygen mask.

On the other hand a ton of people used heroin or coke in the 90s. It's not exactly like he has an image like Donny Osmond.

It's a little surprising. But in hindsight not so much.

He was thus qualified to join the REAL Heartbreakers.

This was alluded to in a Rolling Stone profile on him in 2010 when Mojo came out, I believe.

If Grohl joined in 1994(Petty did make an offer) he would have asked himself "what is it with band leaders and heroin"?

Is there a Rubin/RHCP connection here as that band had big heroin issues?

Poor Tom. Didn't he have a house fire also, which destroyed all his possessions?
Fame and fortune can't protect you from life's troubles (it can of course multiply them).

Yes. Worse, though, that was an arson attack. It's dealt with in the Bogdanovich documentary.

I am not much a fan of Tom Petty's music but I do respect the thought that went into his decision to come forward with this truth. There are many people who don't make it out the other side because they end up in jail or dead. It seems that he is respectful of the fact that it should not be romanticized in any way.
