The curveball cancellation made it on Meet the Press Daily yesterday. The host name-dropped Phish songs throughout the show apparently (I was flipping through channels, heard her say 'Split Open and Melt' in the first segment,) and then did a recap as the closing of the show and talked about Curveball.

Alpharetta 18 is the type of thing that would make a great box set, if it hadn't been released already. Clearly the highlight of 18 imo. Curated down to about 3-4 discs it would be pure fire.

Yes - it’s a very acceptable answer to the ‘if I had to buy one run from a recent tour’ style question.

they could put out a multi-track boxset. They are doing it with Baker's Dozen.

Simply because I like/know most of the songs on the setlist, 2/14/97, Brussels is the choice for me today.

Any thoughts on this show or tour?

Can someone explain From The Archives to me? Is it strictly unreleased stuff? What's the deal with it compared to, say, Live Bait.

Another legendary and pivotal tour. If you havent heard the live record from 3/1/97 “Slip, Stitch and Pass,” go grab it post-haste. It’s a great tour from beginning to end and it birthed the 97 Cow Funk sounds and musically launched the band through 1997 and 1998. Carini debuts a few shows into the tour as well as the instrument switching tunes Wilfredo and Rock-a-William (caught that one deer creek 8/10/97). They go back to Europe in the summer (without playing any US shows) and debut Ghost, Vultures, Dirt, I Saw It Again, Piper and Twist in June. The winter tour is the launching pad for arguably the two best years in the band’s history. Hard to argue against 93/94 but 97/98 is right there. It was a band in full control of its faculties, before the drugs got out of hand and when they were still peaking creatively as evidenced by the high quality of the new songs.

One very important note - on 3/1/97 Mike made the permanent shift to the 5 string modulus bass. That change has come to define his and, in many ways, the band’s sound ever since.

I’d encourage you to listen to every show they played in 1997, April 1998, Summer tour 98, and NYE 98. The fall tour has some great shows as well (Chicago and Hampton jump to mind) but the growth and evolution of the band over that run is really something to behold. It’s actualky almost exactly 18 months in length and they played 114 shows and they debuted about 74 new original and cover songs. And played some of the best shows of their entire career.

Enjoy my friend, you are entering the land of milk and honey

Yes unrealeased stuff. Fairly similar to live bait though FTA predates the live bait releases. The band’s archivist, Kevin Shapiro, has done the FTA broadcasts from the site of every phish festival dating back to 1996 and the Clifford Ball (it could have been 1997 Geat Went though)

A tour buddy of mine taped that entire winter Europe tour. It was an epic trip. Tiny venues, taking the train all over the continent...

So I'm 2 hours and 5 minutes in (Reba solo currently) and decide to see what the folks on .net have to say.

What the heck?! Everyone's all "eh, it was ok, 3/5".

Bruh, are we listening to the same show?! :/
