I'm surpirised by the gear because MCI tape machines usually aren't held in as high regard as Ampex and Studers. I guess this machine is just a tape shuttle though, with its customized head and electronics.

True, those MCI machines are really wonky. But, it's the inside that counts.

I wouldn't trust a tape to be thread up on there though.

    Bad tension? Tape stretching?

Has it been confirmed that Sax is at least doing the 2 channel SACD mastering?

    Great news!!!!!
Obviously Red Trumpet's description is for the SACD surround mix and NOT the LP.
I'm glad I started this thread.
    Thanks again Steve.

Well, Ampex 456 wasn't around back in the 70's. They've just rolled the tape onto another reel.

Yeah, who has this for $18?

Does DSotM have to get baked before play? I think there is a joke in there somewhere.

Will the Redbook be mastered straight from the analog like Steve does, or will it be a downconvert from DSD?

When the pre-orders started they were originally $18.98 at Acoustic Sounds. They were soon bumped to $24.98.

I don't know if anyone else has it for $19 anymore.

Gosh, you guys are fast! I called Chad of Acoustic Sounds yesterday and found out about the whole story but he warned me not to publicize it on the discussion forum and guess what?.....it's already old news:realmad::laugh: :D

No more lacquer cutting at The Mastering Lab, the lathes are gone. Supposedly they needed the space for hi-rez digital mastering equipment (I think DSD).

I don't understand why he wouldn't want it on a discussion board it seems like a good way to drum up more sales. I just ordered one:)

It is because he wants to post the news himself by sending emails to all his registered customers with details and pictures(which he did today).:shh:
