US buyers can still lock in a price below $400 on amazon.co.uk. It is currently listed at 375.99 pounds but there is a VAT charge included that will be removed for US buyers bringing it down to 313.33 plus 3 shipping. 316.33 GBP converts to $385.54 US at today's rates! You snooze, you win :D

  2. So which is it? Prior two posts are quite divergent, in terms of total cost (today), from Amazon.uk -- ???

I just did a test on amazon.co.uk to confirm. You'll see the VAT removed before having to push the "pay in USD" button to complete the order if you want to see before you finalize the order.

Best deal was on the preorder through amazon.it. I'm in at $375 through them, but that's gone up in price now.

Those videos are pretty amazing! Pity about "Jugband Blues", but may be all they could do quality wise with it. I'm amazed at how much David sounded like Syd on "Flaming". Can't wait for the whole thing to arrive in three weeks (may be four since I ordered from PinkFloyd.com)

You can always order from Amazon UK and cancel right after in case the VAT isn't removed. Can't believe it's still at the same price. WIN-WIN!

  6. Wasn't close enough to the genesis of the material to realize that there'd be Syd songs with Dave on lead vocals (other than "Astronomy Domine" and the like). I mean, "Flaming" is about as Syd-centric a Floyd song as you can find (among a few others), but Dave sure does a damn good impression.

I found the flaming video. Can someone please post a link to the other videos that have recently surfaced?

So there's material on the standalone which is not in the box...ie, the standalone is worth getting?

I'd hold out for the imminent Blu-ray release.

rontoon, I asked this in this thread a while back but didn't get a definitive answer: Is there going to be a separate Pompeii Blu-Ray release, independent of this box?

Is this the one that Guthrie has mixed? Is the one in the box mixed by Jackson? Do we know if the standalone will be 4:3 rather than chopped to 16:9?

As I think I said previously, it's maddening that there can be almost simultaneous releases of Pompeii with separate audio mixes by Jackson and Guthrie but there can't be a single release of you know what! Maybe if Guthrie pulled out his finger and did some work, Jackson wouldn't keep getting calls.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my post. I think the Gilmour vocal is fantastic there! The rough voice he has just rocks it, and I love how he sings the harmony vocal as the main vocal. What a cool idea and it very much works. Plus he throws his head back when he rocks out which just plain looks cool. While I'm at it, his guitar there has a really great tone, heard best at the end of the song when he wraps it up with the last chords. THAT is exciting music.

Server is down and TJ is off on holiday. It will probably be down all week.

Indeed there will be an official Pompeii release independent of the box with Guthrie doing his own transfer and mixes (including 5.1) of the audio. I suspect that the Director's Cut will be dropped for the original edit (even Maben didn't like his revisionist edit). Original aspect ratio of 4:3 vs 16:9 is still in question as is the release date.
