I merely mean for the person who feels they have to have this, paying $80+ less is a bargain.
I think I will just sit back and have a beer and ponder whether the individual parts will get a release, and how much they are going to ask for those

Pink Floyd / The Later Years 1987-2019 | superdeluxeedition

Box set concentrates on post-Roger Waters era • 18-disc set including 5CDs, 6 blu-rays, 5 DVDs and more • Over 13 hours of unreleased audio/video

Pink Floyd are to release, The Later Years 1987-2019, another massive music box set in the style of 2016’s Early Years package. This time around, as the title suggest, the set focuses on the later period when Roger Waters had quit and David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason were left to continue on their own to produce studio albums and undertake massive world tours.

The period generated record sales of over 40 million worldwide and included three studio albums: A Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Division Bell and The Endless River as well as two live albums: Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse.

The label claim over 13 hours of unreleased audio and audio/visual material feature in the set (remember a new remix is ‘unreleased’) including the 1989 Venice and 1990 Knebworth concerts.

Both A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Delicate Sound Of Thunder have been remixed, with the former also ‘updated’ (thought to be new Nick Mason drums and alternate Rick Wright parts). They appear on the first three CDs and a fourth gathers together unreleased live and studio recordings. CD 5 is the 57 minute Knebworth concert from 1990. Note The Division Bell isn’t included on CD here, but is on one of the six blu-rays.

The first blu-ray features the new 2019 of A Momentary Lapse of Reason in 5.1 and high res stereo, the 2014 mix of The Division Bell and seven unreleased studio recordings also in 5.1 and hi-res stereo. Three further blu-ray discs cover live material: Delicate Sound of Thunder, Pulse and the Venice and Knebworth concerts. All in hi-res stereo and 5.1. A final blu-ray disc offers a massive amount of videos, concert films, rehearsal footage and more.

The Later Years includes five DVDs but these merely repeat the content on blu-ray discs 2-6. Where surround sound is offered these are mostly Dolby Digital and DTS.

Finally, for the audio, this set includes two seven-inch singles: ‘Arnold Layne’ performed live by Pink Floyd at the Syd Barrett Tribute concert, 2007 and Lost For Words from the Pulse tour rehearsals at Earl’s Court. Both singles have a special etched image on their B-sides.

In terms of ‘stuff’ this also comes with a 60-page photo book, three reproductions tour programmes and a collection of replica memorabilia like posters, tour passes and stickers.

A 2LP ‘highlights’ and single CD of The Later Years will also be released. You’ll find the track listing below, along with very details contents of the big box itself.

The Later Years 1987-2019 is released on 29 November 2019

Just noticed the hype sticker on the set's front cover says it includes 'The Endless River film (unreleased)'.
Is this the EPK and more footage from the 1994/2014 sessions? How long is that film?

  8. Not clear to me that there are "sleeves" for the CD's. The images I've all see show the discs in a multi-foldout booklet type thing. I really don't think there are individual covers for any of the CD's, far as I can tell.

Ah yes, sorry I forgot that while writing my post. On the preview pic do we see only the inside of the foldout thing or is the cover left from it the front side?
[Edit:] Seems that I could do some additional artwork for the first 5 CDs soon then.

Not to mention, they could have tacked those on to the existing disc. With a current running time of 65 minutes, there is enough free space to accommodate those tracks. This is the biggest disappointment of the entire project.

Jup, thanks Rontoon for the headsup, and hope you're better now. Im also puzzled that they still include dvd's, whats the point? you can get a bluray player for 1/5 of the price of this boxset ;). It just feels needless padding to justify the price.

I was willing to pay the price of Early Years boxset , and didnt even think they were going over this. I can see they had they fork out money for licensing, and of course the HD restoration wich cant be cheap. I have fond memories of the tour and the years 87/88, it was my first PF concert (and I can imagine a lot of people saw the band then live for the first time). Now Ill keep the money (and prolly spend it on the forthcoming ItCOtCK King Crimson boxset, PF take note this is how you release boxsets ;).

I was hoping to see somewhat of a better teaser trailer that shows a bit of the restored DSOT, and maybe a short audio clip of the remixed AMLOR.

I've heard WYWH too many times.

For better or for worse, there are people in this thread declaring they only have a DVD player and have no use for the BluRays. Those of us with BluRays want the lovely, sweet lossless multichannel soundtracks and HD video. And there are others who have no use for any audio-video material at all and just want CD audio.

Other than producing 2 or 3 different SKUs for DVD and BluRay variantsand retailers having to guess which boxes to stock and how many, everyone gets all possible formats. Camp Floyd have done this since the 2011 DSOTM & WYWH boxsets, and hey, added bonus of pumping up the disc count in each bogs (please ignore the replication of content!).

That said, David's recent releases (RTL & Pompeii) have had CD/DVD and CD/BR variants, so what do I know? :)

This is like if they'd put out the Early Years without Vegetable Man and Scream Thy Last Scream.

I'm really only interested in the MLOR remix out of all of this. The price point does everuyone a huge disservice and I can't see this selling well (so I assume the price will wind up dropping). I'm sure the MLOR remix will wind up being a standalone release at some point, at which point I will buy it, but with this price they seem to be almost daring people to resort to piracy. The mind boggles.

The inclusion of DVDs and Blu-rays in this box set which contain essentially the same content has me baffled. If given the option, I would anticipate that most people would choose one over the other, depending on their home equipment.

Regardless of the content, forcing fans to fork over a crazy amount of money for a box set that contains 5 discs of duplicate audio/video that will likely never be watched is just...wrong. It would seem to make more sense to issue two different, albeit smaller (and cheaper), box sets - one with everything but DVDs and one with everything but Blu-ray discs.
