I have an original LP of this great album. Bought it on day of release i think. Sadly i lent it a few people and it does have a few snap, crackle and pops. I play it a lot so i thought i might buy a reissue. Before doing so i thought i would ask you guys and girls which issues i should go for. I would like it on vinyl but i am not against a cd if there is a good one out there somewhere. Thanks in advance. Look forward to hearing from you x

The MFSL LP or SACD is the best pressing, even better as the original IMO.

I will have to wait a bit as its so expensive. Is it my only option? Thanks for the reply.

I don't know, I only have compared the original pressing to the Mofi.

Have you checked Discogs? You all ready own it. So if you are happy with the Jacket, you could buy a NM 1st pressing for well under $10 shipped.

Just pressed the button!! A bargain. Would like the Vinyl of Pirates though. Too pricey for me at the moment. Thanks

I've enjoyed my set. Vinyl wise, as you know the original LP is very good, I may be in the minority, but I bought and then sold six Mobile Fidelity original pressings (though I didn't ever have Pirates, so can't comment on it) and apart from surface noise, prefered original UK pressings - cheaper too!

Wow. Maybe i should look for a Nr Mint version on Ebay. My worry is that so many Nr Mints are really absolute rubbish. I will have a look xx

The first CDs sound great. But the original vinyl is terrific. You can find them used for cheap these days...the dollar bins feature this one!

I don't think it was ever remastered on CD except for the MoFi Hybrid SACD. It sounds fantastic, with a bit more depth, better soundstage and tonality, blacker background...
Just so you know, it was a digital recording.

I got the 5 cd classic collection set and it certainly isn't a victim of loudness wars ... if you don't have the other albums, it is a good value buy, with good clean sound. As I say it is not compressed.
I am not any kind of audiophile these days, but to listen in the car I had the volume louder than most cd's I put in there.
Hope that is of some use

I've done something I don't normally do, which is check the DR register, and all the CDs are given the same reading, including the Original Album Series.

    All Pirates CD 15 14 18

    MFSL (SACD) 14 13 17

The original WB CD sounds terrific, but the volume levels are all over the place. The MFSL SACD balanced things out a bit.

I listened to the first four on a long drive a few weeks ago. I kind of lost track of her later work but those four are all great albums, and a nice variety. The debut is one of the best debuts ever, and among the best albums of all time i reckon .... (but my best albums of all time is probably a few hundred lol)

Albums used to have dynamics from track to track, personally I don't like these revisions, but if it works for you, excellent.

I was stunned at the price of a drink in a bar! ... i hadn't really had a drink for years, on a vacation last week i decided to have a drink (margherita) it was nine bucks for one ... it was gone in literally sixty seconds lol
