I'm trying to identify a pair of speakers. The crossovers say "Rogers Sound Labratories" on them. Is this the same Rogers that makes the high end monitors we love so much? To me, these look like JBLs. The woofer has a white cone. They are a three way monitor with a small horn. Even the design of the crossover looks like old JBLs. Any ideas?

The person who correctly identifies these speakers or provides information will win a prize. Pdenny will provide the prize.:D

Prix, these were manufactured by a company that flourished in the mid seventies thru the eighties. They were located in Van Nuys, ca, the in Canoga park, Ca.I had two differnt pairs, and wished i had never sold my RSL Max'es. The company went out of business in the early nineties. Graet prices and service. One time someone put their finger through my tweeter took it back to the store(factory was in back) and they repaired it onsite and didn't even charge me! Some of thier models were very similar to JBLs.

Thanks, Ron. What are these worth? If you want them, send me a PM. I think I can get them pretty cheap if they are worthwhile.

I wish I had more information, but unfortunately these photos are all I have to go on. I would, of course, verify that they were in perfect working condition if I picked them up for you.

    Prix,

I am sure you know if this thread turns into an offer "to sell" that we will have to move it to classifieds?

    Thanks,

    Bob :)

You're killing me, Prix. I had a pair of RSL studio monitors that I adored...they were swiped when my home was burglarized four years ago :( Ron is correct about the stores...I bought most of my audio stuff from them during the 80's.....

Of course, Bob. I know the rules. Should this occur, I will definitely take this over to the classifieds. However, I am still attempting to gather information from this thread about these speakers. Nobody has yet told me what they are worth or even if they are worth getting. So far it's just been a nostalgia trip for Ron and Patrick.:D

I don't know, Ron. From the picture it looks to me like one grill. I can find out, though. The thing is that I don't even have these speakers yet. I'm trying to decided whether or not to grab them. If you can give me a ballpark figure of what they might be worth and let me know how they sound in general, I'll go and pick them up this weekend. Then if you are interested in buying them, I'll post a classified listing.

Steve should remember them. they were really big in the valley. I know for thier price, they were able to undercut JBL (factory direct). I personally thought they sounded better than the JBls at that time.

We really need a model number to be able to figure what they're worth.

I just called the guy. He doesn't have a model number because "the speakers are at his mother's house". Isn't there a general range that similar speakers are going for? For example $50-200 or $500-700?

I think $50 to $200 would be my guess. What size is the woofer?

They were pretty good speakers. When I was still probably a teenager, I had a friend ask me to help him with auditioning speakers. I was steering him toward a bookshelf Infinity model which I liked, and he liked it, too. We went to RSL to try some other speakers, and he immediately asked about some small RSL speaker that was on sale. I warned him against them, telling him they were the "house" brand, but when we heard it, we were both impressed with the clarity and efficiency of these speakers (they went loud well!). He wound up choosing them over the Infinitys.

BTW, the original Upscale Audio was located inside the main RSL store in Canoga Park. That's where I first heard tubed electronics (ARC) and electrostatic speakers (ML). The place was manned by one guy, who was extremely knowledgeable and kind and easygoing. His name was Michael something. I always told myself that when I had the money to go High-End, this was the guy I'd go to. Then RSL went out of business, and Upscale Audio resurfaced about 50 miles to the east, and was run by Kevin Deal. I don't know if there was a connection between the two Upscale Audios, since it was two different guys selling very different lines of equipment, but I did notice that the one appeared close to the time the other disappeared.
