    Hello all -
I am new here and was hoping someone could help with speed instability on my P3. I've checked the archives and found some info on the P3 speeding up, but that is not my problem. It seems like the P3 slows down and speeds up while playing. It speeds up and slows down and sounds awful. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How old is the belt? I had a similar problem with a belt drive 'table myself...hence, I no longer own one.

I think the belt still may be the problem. Who did you buy it from?

99.99% of the time the problem you describe is a problem with the belt. I suppose you could also have a problem with a "loose" pully on top of the motor shaft. This is a press fit or glued on item (depending on the age of the table). Try grabing the pully with your hands while the table is running and see if you stop the motor... or if the motor spins and the pully stops in your hands.

If so, some have fixed this with a drop of super glue. Being careful to insure that the glue doesn't run down the motor shaft and into the motor.

    Right on!

Maybe that's it. The spindle just spun whilst I held the pulley. The motor didn't stop. So, super glue? Thanks.

    Careful.

The motor has a torque sensitivity. If you hold the motor pully while it's spinning, it will give. That doesn't mean the inside shaft isn't adheased. Just make sure you look at the shaft as you hold the pulley wheel....

    Here's my experience with a P2 -

I bought it brand new, had major speed instability. The cause was the belt, i bought a replacement belt from the dealer and this solved it.

Remove your platter, switch deck on, look at the belt as it goes round on the centre spindle. Does it ride up & down in a noticeable way?, this could be the cause of speed instability.
