Never give up! I finally found a clean stereo vinyl copy of the 1965 Capitol The Early Beatles. That was the only one I didn't buy back then because I already had the Vee Jay albums and singles.

But this LP is quite slow compared to all other versions, including the original stereo Parlophone vinyl counterpart. How odd!

Has anyone burned their vinyl copy to cd and adjusted the pitch? If so, by how much?

How could such a mastering error have happened, anyway?

Many thanks (and as a new member, I'm enjoying this forum a lot!)

Hi Gary and welcome to the forum.:)

The slower speed that you speak of is apparent on a lot of original recordings from master tapes. The record companys have sped up the released issues to make them more marketable and catchy.

Check out the speed difference between the MFSL Pink Floyd: Darkside Of The Moon with the new Echo remasters. The song Money has been sped up on the Echos release. This was confirmed by Steve that the MFSL is the correct speed of the master.

A couple of Steves albums contain slower versions (wish I could remember which ones) than I was accustomed to hearing as well.

Thanks, Dave. But the songs on this one release are slower than ALL other versions, including the Parlophone Please Please Me LP from 1963 and its cd counterpart.

The music and vocals all sound flat by a half tone or more, but by how much? (My turntable has a strobe light and it is running correctly.)

Is this a manufacturing or a mastering flaw?

Gary, I'm not an expert, never mind the fact that it's on vinyl. Perhaps our local Beatles expert can be of assistance, Luke your need in post op! Steve, anyone?

My uneducated opinion is that it's probably the manufacturing that's responsible. (wish we had a shoulder shrug icon);)

Gary, can you shoot a few songs that are on this album and then perhaps I can be of a little more help as I have all of the regular releases and the MFSL vinyl on CD-R.

When did I become the "local Beatles expert"?

At any rate, it was probably just a manufacturing problem of some sort. Most likely a tape machine somewhere that ran too fast or slow. Kind of like the screw-up that caused Beggar's Banquet to run too slow all these years.

    Is that a joke?

I may know a lot about The Beatles, but a lot of people here know just as much or more. Ask me about what Parlophone pressing of A Hard Day's Night to get. Hell, make that most LPs. Sorry, I'm clueless. Ask me about solo stuff. Sorry, can't help you there.

This is a big board. Don't take this the wrong way, Dave, but to call me "the Beatles expert" is kind of silly, IMO. This board has a LOT of "experts".

    Gary,

What Luke is saying is that he knows about Beatles' RECORDINGS, but not about actual pressings and their variants. Fair enough.

As for me, I have not played my Capitol stereo "Early Beatles" LP since around 1967 so I can't help you. Probably the lathe or tape machine was running a bit "off" on the day that this lacquer was cut. Remember, "The Early Beatles" was cut from a FOURTH GENERATION TAPE so it's probably a bit off on its own after all of those dubs and redubs.

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

I believe the Eagles Geatest Hits on DCC Gold is a tad bit slower.
