I listen to Emmylou Harris "Red Dirt Girl" at the moment. It may not be 'electronic music' but it has a distorted electronic soundscape. Progressive country music.

    +1 on Grimes

Listen to "California " and "Kill V. Main" on Art Angels. Demented pop bliss.

Curve...though they can be more towards the industrial, have many a tune that would fit your criteria.

Her preceding album, Visions, is terrific too and more firmly planted in electronica.

I always thought this one was a bit of a classic (from 1993) ...

Well, sometimes you need that GOOD Carbon Copy, because there just wasn't enough of the original. No logical follow-up to 'Ray Of Light' or 'Karma', which is why one sets out to seek MORE of THAT. :D

I would say a lot of picks here are wayyyyy off. :p For example Eurythmics and Yazou is 80's new-wave/pop, which is fine in its own right, but doesn't fit this thread. Same thing with Rosalia de Souza and Bebel Gilberto, which sounds like pure jazz to me.

'Ray Of Light' and 'Karma' have this whole lush chill/world/ambient groove going combined with sensual female vocals, which is one of the key things that attracts me to it. And it's very hard to find something exactly like that...

Otherwise, thanks for all the recommendations. Off and on-topic. Gonna try and put this thread back on track with this:

  20. Perhaps not quite what you're after, but something that fits this general bill is Electric Circus, a pretty obscure Canuck duo who released one album in 1988. Most of it is synths with "world/tribal" rhythm tracks and some acoustic guitar embellishments; a lot of it makes me think of maybe early Sarah McLaughlin going for a Dead Can Dance sort of thing.

Anyway: this was my fave track on the album, which doesn't have the rhythmic elements but has a certain chill sensuality...
