If slow paced movies don't bother you, try this one. One of Jack Nicholson's most underappreciated movies, along with ''The Border'' and '' Blood And Wine''.

I believe "Exorcist III" works as a 'thriller'!
    Give it a try.

"The Town" with Ben Affleck (directed and co-wrote).

I was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.

May as well throw in "Mystic River" although the novel by Dennis Lehane was more satisfying.

I used to be a bit averse to watching sub-titled films but I got over it, I liked The Invisible Guest, mentioned up thread.

In a kind of similar vein, I recommend "The Night of The Sunflowers" and "The Secret in their Eyes", both are Spanish language films. Also, "Tell No One", a French thriller.

Normally I'd agree as it appears like a cheap cash-in but it does have Brolin and Del Toro and is seen more of a stand-alone spin-off rather than a sequel, so it's worth a try.

Just rewatched this last week and I have to tell you, there are plot holes you could drive a truck through. Firstly, the Richard Crenna character just shows up and says he's a friend of her husband. She's never heard of him but just takes his word. Then these crooks are coming and going in and out of her apartment but she never bothers to lock the door? Finally, it never occurs to her until the very end to try to leave her apartment or at least go to another apartment to hide or ask for help?

2 come to mind that are well worth veiwing

    The Night Of The Hunter(1955)
Robert Mitchum is switchblade totin psycho Southern preacher after $10,000 in stolen bank money and will stop at nothing including murder of men women & children to get his hands on it.Very controversial for the 1950s.
    Set in the 1930s.
    Heavy creepy stuff.

The Honeymoon Killers(1969) The original with Tony LoBianca is very scary and its a true story.
The claw hammer scene is one of the most frightening and intense scenes in cinema.

Rivers Edge is a well acted true story revolving around teenage friendship
    & murder(1984?)

Diabolique (1955) is a French thriller that will satisfy you if you like dubbed movies.

Vanishing Point (1971) Barry Newman is a ex race car driver

    Well these are my gems.

The Original Argentine "Secret in Their Eyes" from 2009 is one of the best thrillers ever made imo, as procedurally absorbing as it is profoundly poignant. ( I gather the more recent U.S. remake was medicore) And halfway through is one of the most jaw dropping tracking shots ever made.

A little surprised to see that Blood Simple hasn't been suggested yet. It's the Coen brothers first film. And there's at least a decent argument that it's their best.

You mentioned the best two in your OP: The Silence of The Lambs and The Departed.

My favorite Thriller is this one:

In all seriousness, if you are going Jack Nicholson then it is The Shining and Chinatown.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Shutter Island and Inception

And of course, a forum favorite, No Country For Old Men

Black Rain (1989) from the director of Blade Runner. It's just about the prototypical or typical late 80s neo noir action thriller. The mood holds very well, the action keeps going, and the actors are good.

Something along the same lines as far as general ambience goes, British mini series Edge of Darkness is a true classic. Why on earth is there no proper release of the soundtrack by Eric Clapton and Michael Kamen? The Hollywood remake (2010) by the original director, Martin Campbell, divides opinion but is well worth seeing too, in my opinion.
