If you don´t mind, I´m going to arrange polls on Elvis´ original albums (LP-versions), starting with his 1956 LP debut. It´s almost impossible to choose just three track, and it depends on the mood and so on. But for his debut, the rockers are the ones that I like best. The LP was a mixture of newly recorded songs and leftovers from the Sun record company. Elvis ballad voice should be better in the future, but what a blistering rocker he was at this stage.

    What do you think folks?
    Regards Björn
PS: "Elvis" from 1956 will follow soon.

Tough, I went with Shoes, Just Because and Trying to get to you.

I'm really partial to the Sun recordings, almost picked I'll never let you go over Shoes.

"Trying to Get to You" is one of my all time favorite Elvis songs, so this one was easy. I do like his take on "Blue Suede Shoes," but it's so friggin irritating how many people think it's his song ("Carl who?!") that I couldn't bring myself to vote for it.

    I went with...

    "Blue Suede Shoes"
    "I Got A Woman"
    "Trying To Get To You"

I love the album in general and these three tracks in particular. If I had to choose just one of these, it's "Trying To Get To You"...that groove is awesome.

I'm going with "Blue Suede Shoes" although I prefer Carl Perkins' version.

As great as the 1955 master for Trying To Get To You is, I think the 2 versions from the 1968 Comeback Special sit-down shows actually surpass it. Because of that, I never rate the 1955 master as highly as most do.

    Tough choice -- good album!

I went with "Tryin' to Get to You".

I'm also a fan of "One-Sided Love Affair".

Doesn't one of his live albums have a really good version too?

My knee jerk is "I Got A Woman". Yes, I know Ray is suppose to be definitive, but Elvis was on fire on this song. Not as big a fan of Blue Suede Shoes as I once was. I really dont think its that strong a song.

Blue Moon is from another planet. It is slathered in "that mood". Heavy romance. That would be my second choice.

I like "Tryin to Get To You". For some reason this song has became a fav of the Elvis hardcores. It wasnt always that way.

I like the version of I Gotta Woman better on Platinum: A Life in Music. It's more like a Sun track.

My brother bought these on an EP in 1956, and I grew up loving them over and over. I just can't bring any objectivity to this.

I'm interested to see so many here like this one so much. It was among my favorites when I first came across this Elvis music in the early 60s. It appealed to my inner romantic. Still does, and I was very pleased when a Canadian light jazz artist recorded it a few years ago.

And I appreciate what you say about One Side Love Affair. That's frantic!

Yes. The "Recorded Live In Memphis" album from 1974 has a great version. Not as good as '68, but very impressive.

He even did this one well in '77.
