Some people give pet names to their car. My neighbor, for example, once had a sedan he called Bandaid because the rust poking through the paint made it look like the car needed a bandaid. Some people give names to their house. My grandpa once had a house on the coast that he called Sasquatch Ford. He called it that because he saw a bigfoot near the fjord and he got so excited that he carved a wooden sign to commemorate it. Only problem is, he forgot the j in fjord but it was funny and memorable and we kept calling it Sasquatch Ford from that point forward. So, my question to you folks is, does your hifi have a pet name? What is it and is there a funny story to go along with it? Please take the poll and comment below. If you don't use a pet name, how else do you refer to your hifi when you're talking about it with friends and family? By manufacturer name? Maybe you call it 'my rig' or 'my system'?

Around our house we call the hifi, Teddy. This came from the fact that our hifi is in a cabinet with doors and the only piece that's visible when the doors are shut is a Teddy Pardo power supply. One day, my preschooler asked me to play her playlist on Teddy Pardo. After I stopped ROFLing, I figured out that she was asking to use the hifi to play her music and so our hifi is now called Teddy. When one of us wants to use Teddy for a listening session, we say we're gonna have a talk with Teddy.

If mine did, it would be 'The Missus' - it takes much of my time, all of my money, and while warm in the day, it's cold at night.

(Please don't take this as a dig at matrimony - it seems like many members here have lovely partners, and I wish them all many happy years together.)

It's "the stereo". My amp - a First Watt Aleph J clone - is nicknamed "The McGriddle" since it runs so hot you could cook off of it (not really!). The Audio Research SP8 actually runs hotter.

Another “yes” vote—although I might have gone with “other,” as this applies only to my speakers. A friend christened my latest DIY horn system, Delicieuse Enfant, My Baby Doll.

(While my former DIY horn system was known as Brando On The Ice.)

Hagstrom Please stop calling them vinyls.

Very cute to use names with the children, but if this was a friend of mine I'd have a good talk with him about the last time he experienced the touch of a woman.

I was thinking just the sound, the alliteration, but the fact is I'm the one who feeds him.

    Well done....

Makes me wonder how many unnamed pets would be out there as a result though if this were true.... I mean someone gets the dog, cat, goldfish, right?

Not exactly a pet name... but when it’s not working properly there’s a few names called that aren’t fit to print on a family friendly forum like this one

No, it doesn't have an official name. However, everyone in the family knows it is "Dad's Turf," and accorded as much, if not more, respect as "Mom's Make-Up." In other words, HANDS OFF.
