    That's like $1,300 CPI inflation-adjusted.

I am thinking the OP is asking for total cost....table arm cart etc....what did it cost you to get your wax spinning?

I Went with $1500-$2000 and added all three up to get there.

Every turntable I have ever owned falls into the less than $500 category. That includes service, restoration, and cartridge. Granted, I'm not Mr. High End Audio, and it helps that I've never purchased a new turntable, but there are a couple of pretty nice turntables in there. Thorens, Empire, Dual...

Mine was a gift, so that probably skews the results. Maybe I shouldn't have voted.

Still have both in mint condition.

  12. Not everyone bought a TT last year. It will be difficult to average out everybody's purchase.
The Ortofon 2M Blue puts me close to the $500 mark

I paid $400 for my Debut Carbon, but the upgrades I put into it basically doubled the list price.

My primary deck—Strathclude 305-m/SME III arm—was given to me. The Shure 97xe cartridge was around $75.

I have a prime with 2m black. That should put me in the 4k range but I bought it with the acrylic platter and got the entire set up for 3k.

Funny to see this thread. I had just found my receipt from '84:
$680 for turn table, receiver, speakers. (Still have turn table and speakers (reconditioned)).
Not my first paycheck, which went to a car, but close.

My Technics SL-Q2 was free (from a friend) and my Pioneer PL-600 was $200 I think. Both were acquired used.

Edit: BTW why are there 2 simultaneous threads and polls? Maybe I should list 1 turntable in each.

Curious why you got it with the acrylic platter. Was that by choice or another Frankentable from VPI?

I summed the cost of TT, cartridge , tonearm, silicone damping device and platter mat into one cost because I got it all at the same time to coordinate into a single player (MMF 7.1, 9cc arm, GR 1042 cart., Oracle damping kit and the Origin Live platter mat. Around $1700 total after shopping around.
A gamble that paid off as it does work really well, the core idea to do this was based on having owned a MMF 5 with the GR 1012 years ago and thoroughly enjoying what that basic setup was able to do.
In retrospect I think the MMF5 really is a sleeper in that it does out perform it's price point by quite a bit (I bought one when they were around $400 new), at first I thought the new build idea was a mistake because I thought the damping pads (between the plinth layers) were better on the 5 than the 7 but have since realized/learned that this setup is better at isolation overall.
I got a great deal on a Clearaudio /Marantz TT15s with the Virtuoso cart. from a forum member here (less than $400!), and I really like this one a lot, it is not as well isolated as the mmf7 -which is no big deal really.
Someone gave me a Sony PS-X6 which I then had fully serviced, so it cost me $120, this one sounds great with Grado cartridges.

Not to be a buzz kill here but why this thread? We all know what these things cost and anyone that would discuss this has their equipment profile filled out.
