No. In fact, I'd never heard of him until just now.

 

yes, mono. one of my all time favorite records. When those bass notes rip through the speakers.... never fails to give me chills

 

Very hard to find record. The mono and the stereo are very different. The orchestra is miked differently, and the sound effects are different. Garcia preferred the mono version. I like both.

The album is/was available on CD from Basta Records.

Bought the record when released and the cd recently. Sounds more like Star Trek music today which is not a bad thing at all.

 

I have that from a EU public domain release on Real Gone Jazz. I bought all four volumes of Les Baxter. After buying those, I find Les Baxter to be kind of hit or miss and more often miss. His best stuff is right up there with Martin Denny or Arthur Lyman. Music Out of the Moon is one of the misses for me though. African Jazz and Jungle Jazz are my favorites.

 

A good one for Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray to remaster for SACD and vinyl.
