Tough for me to just pick 5...it's a great album start to finish. Played the heck out of the vinyl growing up.

Love every single song. And the B-side "Country Dreamer".
Bought it the moment I saw it. Was not aware a new album was coming out..."Helen Wheels" was already out but Paul often did non album singles in those days. (I don't remember the label of my 45 mentioning an album. And it was only on the album in the US). So...at the time, I thought "Helen Wheels" was the weakest track on the album, but these days it is probably my favorite. I remember walking into a record shop at the time and the guy behind the counter was dancing to "Helen Wheels". We were soon very good friends and remained so for many years. I never understood not releasing "Let Me Roll It" or other singles. They should not have stopped with the "Band On The Run" single. ("Mamunia" was the B side of "Jet" in the US on the initial run...)

I ws never a big fan of Mamunia ...until I got the Nimbus audiophile pressing...and then it sounded a whole lot better to me...like a nice audiophile demo track...

1985 would have been absolutely amazing minus that stupid bit tacked on at the end. I’ve always wanted a commercial release without that as I’ve mentioned several times on this board throughout the years.

gregorya I approve of this message

I got this album from my uncle for Christmas when it was released. I absolutely couldn't stand the single "Helen Wheels" and because it was on the Canadian release, I didn't open the album and considered it to be kind of a lump of coal....

Then I heard the title track, "Jet" and "Let Me Roll It" on a local FM station.... suddenly my lump of coal transformed into a diamond...

Eventually, I ordered the UK import from a local shop and solved the Helen Wheels dilemma once and for all... ;)

    My 5:

    Band on the Run
    Jet
    Bluebird
    Let Me Roll It
    No Words

1985 - I will say McCartney should have been performing this fantastic song years earlier!

To this day I remain baffled by the love for Jet. I fondly recall hearing this album (on a friend's tape copy) in the mid 80s and later being amazed to learn that the cringe-inducing second track had been issued as a single. "Jet! Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo!" indeed :)

Absolutely. A fantastic song ruined at the end for no good reason. I guess it just falls in to the typical McCartney habit he's had over the years, whenever anything gets on the verge of being intense he always seems to try and lighten the mood, and on this occasion it wasn't a good idea (IMO)

At McCartney's concerts, that Oo,oo, oo, oo, oo is the crowds favorite part! When I saw him the crowd couldn't wait until he got to that part so they could all sing it out, his audiences love it! It's a very catchy part.

I love that part at the end of 1985, so it's just a matter of taste, to me it was a very good idea!

I used to really dislike Helen Wheels too. For me that changed when I learned the words and realized it namechecks a lot of places in England - it's a fun song to sing along to, esp. when driving. Getting the DCC CD version helped too.

It has been overplayed - mainly by Paul himself - but it's a wonderful song. What a riff! Great vocal too.
