I thought this poll would concern whether the girl was Paul's or Mike's.

  2. Based on the evidence of the song: what self-respecting girl would want anything to do with those wimps?

Michael's original title though was: "The Boy Is Mine". But that wouldn't have gone over too well ... ;) Arnie

  6. I voted "meh". There's no way I would deliberately listen to it, but I also don't hate it.

    Michael's vocals are great though.

    Sickeningly wimpy.
Makes Paul Simon sound like Motorhead.

So-so. Cheezy, but not the worst offender by any stretch of the imagination.

Paul's lyrics reveal a man in an epic stage of denial, while Michael displays confidence. He is proud he is the only one who is special in her heart, whereas Paul lurches between petty ridicule ("I don't understand the way you think"), excusing his own inability to act on his desires ("Sending roses and your silly dreams/Really are a waste of time"), and drawing spurious comparisons with his rival ("I love you more than he").

Finally, when Michael tires of humoring Paul ("Don't waste your time") and reasserts his claim in true caveman fashion ("the dog-gone girl is mine"), Paul does the one thing no man who wants a woman should do: He goes full wimp by saying "We're not going to fight about this, okay?" No, you want a woman, you will fight about this, to the death if necessary. It's what all women want, and Michael knows this. Michael at this point in the song just laughs, knowing he doesn't have to fight Paul as he has already won the battle by demonstrating the superiority of his manhood.

All Paul can do at this point is acknowledge defeat. "Is that what she said?" he asks lamely after Michael drops the bombshell of her announcing that he (Michael, not Paul) is her "forever lover." "You keep dreaming," Michael sneers as Paul retreats, tail between legs, muttering "I don't believe it," never again to trouble Michael's love life.

Tomorrow on Dr. Phil, what Carrie Underwood should have done when he cheats.

Voted meh. Say Say Say is good though. Although, leave it to Paul to end up on a best selling album that isn't one of his :)

Michael overdid it with the steroids Paul sold him at that medicine show. Much like he did when Paul gave him the idea to buy someone's songs.

Don't know if you're getting banned... Maybe, if you've a naughty boy, though...:wiggle:

If you think the duets represents what Paul was capeable of in the eighties, I would suggest you'd to listen to Tug Of War...

I was 8 when this came out and wasn't yet aware of cheesiness. I liked the tune and remember looking at the drawing of them fighting over the girl while reading the lyrics. I don't mind it now because Michael's singing on the bridge makes up for the rest of the song. Cool tune.

Listened to the "Thriller" album all the way thru last week. After all these years the song is still cringe worthy to me.

After listening to that demo though, the "cheesiness" factor is considerably less. They shouldve gone with a solo version.

    Hate It.

The only dud on Thriller AND Michael Jackson's HIStory Disc 1 collection.

For the record, I really really like Say Say Say!

I'm not a Michael Jackson fan, and this isn't even my favorite Paul-Michael song, but I voted "cool tune" anyway.
It's not a bad song, and the low notes that Paul hits in the fadeout always amazes me.
