Like the other poll, Round 1a:, let’s eliminate three tracks. See Round 1a for full description of how this WL will be run. (In short, because there are 38 tracks for this poll, this WL game is split into two simultaneous polls for the first few rounds.)

    Link to Round 1a:
    Poll--The Weakest Link: Cream's 1966-1969 Studio Recordings and 45s, Round 1a

Please note that both polls close at approximately the same time.

Discussion questions will begin with Round 3.

i liked cream as an idea. great musicians and jamming. the problem for me was that aside from a few tracks, i just found the songs to be a bit weak

Without a discussion question, I am not sure how much participation I will get, so I'll add one (to both groups.)

Quite a few of the songs here are actually cover songs. How do you think Cream's versions compare with the originals?

I don't think there is a studio version of Crossroads

I know. I made an exception for that, since the live version was released as a single. I made a note of it in the other poll.

Well I think Disraeli gears is strong album (except two filler crappy songs), but I can see your point. Wheels of fire is a weak and autoindulgent record

Yeah, Cream to me is very much less than the sum of it's parts. And frankly, all three did better work elsewhere. Blind Faith, The Graham Bond Organization, Derek And the Dominoes, Jack Bruce solo, all better than Cream if you ask me.

dreaming, cats squirrel, rolling and tumblin. i loathe the harmonica wherever it may be found.

i actuallly like "pressed rat and warthog" within the context of the album.

    Dreaming, Squirrel, Warthog.

But really, apart from 6 or 7 of these, it could've been any three.

I'd forgotten how few good songs they had...

I can see why Cat's Squirrel got the votes - there's not much to it. But I think it's great. One of Eric's best solos.

Strange Brew / Sitting On Top Of The World / Outside Woman Blues.

Standard dull mid paced Cream blues by numbers numbers. (Some great tracks on this list though). Very surprised Cats Squirrel has so many negative votes. At least it's got some life to it.

I find it amusing on this forum how a thread about some take on this or that performer becomes an invitation for those who don't like the band to grace us all with their negative opinion of that performer.

It must make them feel good, but such posts are off point, among other problems with them.

i find it interesting that of all the crossroads boots ive heard, ginger baker never repeated the beat or whatever you call it... of the famous winterland '68 version

I went with "Outside Women Blues" and "Take It Back" easily. Not bad songs really, but just totally uninteresting to me.

Also, "Cat's Squirrel", but that's only because I like every other track on here more. Yes, even "Pressed Rat and Warthog" which oddly enough is a personal favorite. I like those oddball Wheels of Fire songs.

I would guess Passing the Time is one of them. I really like that one.

    Dreaming, World of Pain, Scrapyard

If you thought Wrapping Paper was an odd debut, what the Sam Scratch was this doing on the debut album?!? World of Pain is Strange Brew redux, ok for the album but it gets to the chorus and it's "Didn't I just hear this song?" Scrapyard sounds like a Nursery Chryme outtake, I love Genesis just not from Cream.
