Oddly enough a Zappa song by song thread was not so recently attempted over on the Maidenfans forum.

It didnt make it past Money.

I chose "Tiny Lites" as weaker, purely because you can't throw a stone into the Utility Muffin Research Closet without hitting yet another recording of it. Like going to McDonalds because you like the ice in your Coke.

And, "Yo Mama" provides such a soaring finality to the piece, as well as a dandy, in-context guitar sola, I could sit through that a jillion times.
(When you pick up a random live Zappa album, particularly of the booted variety, you can sit through "Tiny Lites" a jillion times).

Probably would have had Dancin Fool beat out Bobby Brown to end it. Too bad they never did an expanded version of the CD with the 12" mix of Dancin Fool. Is there enough disc capacity for that?

Yo Mama - Points off for borrowing most of it's good stuff from the longer performances of 'Wild Love' (see the 'Halloween 77' USB for evidence) and for not really having a great conclusion. It just goes along okay for a while and then just runs out of gas until Frank starts announcing the musicians names and stops. I like it fine but it doesn't seem like the best track to end the album for me. Maybe if they'd moved the random sound collage at the end of of 'I'm So Cute' to the end of this instead it might have worked better?

But also it's just fitting that 'City Of Tiny Lites' ends up as the best song on the album. Because it is.

Holy crap, that would take you YEARS to complete. I'd surely participate, but it seems like might be too massive of an undertaking.

As for the votes, I didn't get any notices for the previous thread (boo!) and I was busy yesterday so I missed this one. I am happy that Yo Mama won out as it's my favorite song on the album. My final pairing would've been Wild Love & Yo Mama. Those two songs floored me first time I heard the album.

given time, i would certainly be a part of that.
If you needed a break, again, given time I would be happy to do some albums, so long as my style isn't detested amongst the forum

"The Sheik Yerbouti Tango" borrowed from those long versions of "Wild Love" more than "Yo Mama" did.
