"Penny Lane" didn't like the end of the play anyway.

That brings us to the final pairing. Remember, you are still voting to eject a song, leaving your choice as the Stronger Link between these two standing.

Discussion question: What would your personal final pairing be from MMT?

Thanks to all that played and commented along the way. Next up: LandHorses is going to run Jefferson Airplane VOLUNTEERS.

    3 Penny Lane
    4 Hello Goodbye
    5 Magical Mystery Tour
6 The Fool On The Hill
7 All You Need Is Love
    T8 Baby You're A Rich Man
    T8 Your Mother Should Know
    T10 Blue Jay Way
    T10 Flying

DQ – This was my personal final pairing. I voted off IATW, which was a rather painful thing to do...

I picked "Walrus" because although it's a fantastic achievement, it's rather claustrophobic and paranoid.
"Strawberry Fields" has a beautiful melody and the lyrics are a calm confusion.

DQ- Penny Lane & Strawberry Fields- two sides of the coin, early 1967 style.

I Am the Walrus is more fun. This would be my final pairing, though.

    I am The Walrus
    Winner: Strawberry Fields Forever

DQ: Not really sure what my final pairing would be. Can narrow it to these four: Strawberry Fields, Magical Mystery Tour, Hello Goodbye, The Fool On The Hill.

This one is crazy. Going in, I'd have said final pair, Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields, which I still think is their best A/B single ever, period. Maybe anybody's best. There have been long stretches of my life where I'd have chosen Penny Lane, but right now, with those two, it'd be Strawberry Fields....

...except that's not the fight. What I try to do in the final is play both tracks back to back in a loop. And I mean play 'em a LOT. This actually becomes more important to me the better I know the album. I don't want to vote for how I felt about these songs in 1967 or 2012. I want to be sure that I'm giving them their due TODAY.

First, I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to listen to nothing but these two songs for a couple of hours. And as much as I'd be certain I'd have voted off Walrus to let Strawberry Fields win, the harder I found to actually do it. Walrus is amaaaazing. In fact, when I first heard it, it terrified me. There's still never been anything quite so overwhelming for me. The amount of genius packed into that track, the highs and the lows, the daring language, those insane strings. Tops "Are You Experienced?" as the tippity top psychedelic track of 1967 for me. An absolute pinnacle of so much of what was most wonderful about The Beatles.

    Exactly.

What can I say? My 2015 self won the battle, but my 1967 self won the war.

These are the correct final choices, and sadly Walrus must now go.

"Strawberry Fields Forever" is pure genius. Hearing it for the first time as a 13 year old changed my life.

I hate to vote for it but - I Am The Walrus. Strawberry Fields Forever is too good a song and recording

Final pair would be - Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane - possibly the greatest ever single

"I Am The Walrus"................("Strawberry Fields Forever" for the win).

This would be my final pair, and "Penny Lane" would've been 3rd.

"Strawberry Fields Forever"... I think that WALRUS is the highlight of this album. It always feels right when it arrives at the end of Side One.

My final pairing would be SFF and I AM THE WALRUS though. The two greatest songs on this album.

    Fields for the win.

    Personal pairing:
Magical Mystery Tour and Blue Jay Way, with Blue Jay Way being a distant second. The title song is the only one on this album I really dig.

Just stunned that Penny Lane, perhaps their most fully realized tune, didn't make the finals. Walrus and Strawberry are distant seconds.

DQ: I would have "Baby You're A Rich Man" edging "I Am The Walrus."

After deciding that, I went back to look at what I said in January 2007, the first time I did this album: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threa...agical-mystery-tour-round-8-the-final.101277/ If you were on board here back then, and played along, you may want to see if your opinion differed in 8 1/2 years.

And it was the same two for me, but I didn't call the winner.

My final - Penny Lane vs. Strawberry Fields with Strawberry Fields winning.

Shout out to "Yo Momma", which I felt was banished far too soon. Very charming number.

Strawberry Fields is the best. Should have been the A side. Or was it a double A single with Penny?

This is an easy choice for the final two. Penny Lane is a distant third.

It's kind of a toss-up for me as to which one to vote for. I might vote for SFF if it's not close, just because.
