"Nausea" made people sick. Five songs left, one more must go.

Discussion question (this was mentioned a few rounds ago): What do you think of the production of Los Angeles? Some debate that Ray Manzarek's keyboard parts could be overdone or not fit in. Do you like what he did? Does his contributions work better on some songs that others?

    Bloody red eyes go to...............

    Nausea (Round 3)
    Soul Kitchen (Round 2)
Sex and Dying in High Society (Round 1)
    Sugarlight (Round 1)

I like everything about early X. Or... X up to "More Fun". It gets more problematic once the producer changes.

Guess "Los Angeles" will win this. Not because it's best but because it's the title track. And to avoid the inevitable "She had to leave" pun!

I'm not sure "Los Angeles" winning is a foregone conclusion. There's definitely 1 (maybe 2) other songs that could win it as well.

    Time to disconnect Your Phone.

I don’t have any issue with Ray’s musical or production contributions. Maybe another producer could have found a way to put them on the road to R.E.M.-like success, but that’s another issue entirely. That may not have been in the cards for them regardless.

“Los Angeles” wouldn’t win if it were up to me—this is the second round I’ve picked it.

DQ: I’m fine with Manzarek’s production and his keyboard parts.

Once again: "The World's a Mess, It's in My Kiss" has to go.

    Production is OK.
Can't complain, but - on the other hand - nothing special to it in my view.

  8. Am I the first to admit to voting "The Unheard Music" off?

I think the organ in "Nausea" is the best part of the song.

(I have just made myself a X pariah.)

I do think Ray's playing on "Nausea" is a bit over the top, but he's keys are great on "The World's A Mess."

"The Unheard Music" is getting voted off the island? Y'all are nuts. That's one of the best couple of songs on the album!

I just saw this thread. Are you gonna do "Under The Big Black Sun"?

At some point, I'll run Wild Gift, Black Sun, and More Fun......but these will be further down the road. I don't usually run the same bands/artists close together.

Pretty hard choices. There’s not an ounce of fat on that album, to be sure. I only just saw this thread, and I voted for TWAM;IIHK as its always struck me as a bit too lightweight (it works well as a coda but not by itself)

If these results hold, I have a pretty bad pun to start the next round with

    Still 1+ hours left.

Not so fast, LandHorses—“Los Angeles” is up to three votes now. It’s about to overtake “The Unheard Music”...
