Mega hit = a song that was number one on the Billboard top 100 for at least 6 weeks.

A few that didn't make the poll:

Debby Boone - "You Light Up My Life"
    Kenny Rogers - "Lady"
    *Paul McCartney/Stevie Wonder - "Ebony & Ivory"
*Paul McCartney/Michael Jackson - "Say Say Say"

    * Paul & MJ are better represented elsewhere in the poll.

    My top 10:
    - INPO except for "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" which would be my number 1.

    Monkees - "I'm A Believer"
    5th Dimension - "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In"
Zager & Evans - "In The Year 2525"
Simon & Garfunkel - "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
Roberta Flack - "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"
Gilbert O'Sullivan - "Alone Again (Naturally)
    Bee Gees - "Night Fever"
    The Knack - "My Sharona"
Diana Ross & Lionel Richie - "Endless Love"
Kim Carnes - "Bette Davis Eyes"

I like every single song on that list to varying degrees, with the possible exception of "Le Freak". Wow, how music has declined since then... :(

If you included You Light Up My Life I would have voted for that instead of Centerfold

Somebody voted for Physical besides me! I'm not actually that keen on the song but felt I should show support!

Others I chose were the Beatles, Bee Gees, Madonna, Irene Cara, Joan Jett, Michael Jackson and Gilbert O' Sullivan.

I voted mostly for the earlier stuff. "I Love Rock And Roll" was the newest song I voted for (and that probably explains why I voted like I did too!)

There's some real stinkers on that list. I voted for "I Heard it from the Grapevine" and "Hey Jude." A few of the others are nice to hear when you hear them unexpectedly on the radio--mostly from '60's/'70's. I really started to hate Top 40 radio in the '80's.

I have less trouble picking 10 songs from 1976 than I do from this bunch.

    "Hey Jude", of course.

    Runners up:

    "I'm A Believer" (#1 the day I was born)

    "Joy To The World"

    "Alone Again (Naturally)"

"My Sharona" (even if the hit was the lame edit)

    "Every Breath You Take"

The only ones I selected. The rest range from OK to I-never-want-to-hear--again.

Wow. I have always thought Hey Jude is one of the worst songs I have ever heard.

I struggled to pick more than just First Time...Aquarius, 2525, and Joy to the World barely made the cut.

Without the any lapse of doubt: Billie Jean. Probably my favorite single ever and the only song that I can tell had a significant impact in my life. I don't believe in life changing records, but this song showed something else: to the heart, to the mind, to the feet.

The only one I really like is Roberta Flack. I voted for it and, oddly enough, Madonna, which was the only other track to rise above my threshold, which was arbitrarily quite severe for this poll ...

Fun (but slightly disturbing) fact - in 1987 there was a hit that dwarfed the biggest hits in this poll. The song? "Livin' On A Prayer" by Bon Jovi - number one for 14 weeks.

Never thought "Grapevine" was all that. "Hey Jude" I'm sick of. I'm actually surprised a few of these ("Alone Again (Naturally)", "Centerfold ", "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face") were that big a hits, although I happen to like all of them (though only "Face" got a vote from me).

"Physical" was the best-selling single of the '80s, if memory serves. "Call Me" I think was #2 (or maybe it was "Bette Davis Eyes"). The early '80s was loaded with monster singles.
