    Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder

Everyone else falls short in at least one other category for me.

Remember, you have as many (or as few) choices as you want. It's not about choosing 3 people - it's about choosing people who are "The 3" per the rules of the game....

I haven't voted yet, but my instinct tells me that only Marvin Gaye and McCartney (I'm not a fan but I have to admit it) qualify completely. Mayfield was another thought, but I don't think he's at the top of the class instrumentally.

  14. That's what I was thinking, too. I came back to this poll to take a look and all of these Macca fans have come out in droves. I'm a Macca fan, also; but damn, he really doesn't meet the 3rd criteria since the guy's voice is shot.

Elton? Didn't Bernie Taupin write most of his hits?

I couldn't vote for Jimi because IMO his voice/singing is not world class. His song writing and guitar playing are as good as any of the others, IMO.

Prince, Joni Mitchell and Lowell George. Seems pretty obvious, really... :)
