Pick up to 3. If you vote "Other," please tell us your choice(s). And these are U.S. groups only, btw.

I'm going to knock out "Other" and include them. You can change your vote.

Although they might not make my top 3 (definitely Top 10), Cameo and the Commodores should probably be on the list.

    Top three was fairly easy:

    Sly & the Family Stone
    Funkadelic
    War

I've always liked a bit of rock with my soul/r&b/funk and those three definitely have it.

I would have also included The Isley Brothers.

You don't have any artist from Stax records (Sam & Dave, Johnny Taylor, Otis Redding) all backed Booker T & the M.G.'s, or the Bar-Kays'. Maybe there should be a list of 5 acts?
Also, you have the Impressions, but not the Staple Singers, both were a R&B/Gospel hybrid groups!

    P. Funk, Sly & the Family Stone and Other: Sam & Dave, would be my snap choice.....but I just as easily could have picked the Miracles, though my dirty little secret is that my favorite soul groups are all gospel groups: The Soul Stirrers, The Caravans, The Staple Singers.

Thanks for all your "Other" entries, guys. I realized a few minutes ago that I also overlooked Shalamar, a group I like a lot.

Good list, but no Stax stuff like the MG's, Bar-Kays, Staples, or Sam & Dave.

I don't see the Isley Brothers. If I can't vote for them, I'm not voting.

Those of you who haven't started a poll before: Keep in mind you're limited to 25 options. Obviously I would have included 25 more if I could.

Four Tops (Levi Stubbs was the greatest singer not named Sam Cooke)
    Funkadelic/Parliament

My other: The Gap Band - sometimes overlooked but I love their melodies and the way the guitar is mixed into their songs. The Wilson brothers are just enormous talents.

Great poll, but very hard to pick just 3 since I love so many on that list (and others not included).

Lots of tough choices, but I went with the ones where I like the most songs by them: Smokey, Supremes, and Sly.

Sly and The Temptations are tied for the lead at 14. Four Tops and P-Funk are next at 11 each.

There are tons of artist that should be on the list.

    Three of my faves are

    The Ohio PLayers
    The Bar - Kays
    Lakeside

    Yeah, I like the Funk!

For all real R&B soul fans, The group Confunkshun has a brand new album coming out, titled More Than Love, and the new single "Your Night", can already be heard!
