You see that’s where we have a difference of opinion. Gabriel and Bush are, essentially, ‘rock' musicians in that their field of music. So let’s be honest here, the rock genre is quite vast as there are so many styles and hybrids of these styles that fall into this genre that it makes classification of what is or isn’t a ‘rock’ vocalist quite difficult to assimilate.

No difference of opinion at all , because they are both rock musicians .But if you read my next post , it says

"judging from the OP's list I think he was looking for rock / hard rock singers . But up to the OP really to comment on this ,I'm just speculating here.

    P.S.
No offence but this is just another sloppy poll if you ask me"

Edit: By sloppy I mean not saying exactly what he wanted ,fair enough if you understand it as a poll on best rock male/female vocalist , but then you need at least 100 entries and not 15 or so to make it representative . As I said from the list I think the OP was looking for rock/hard rock singers , without specifying it - and thus turning this into a pretty useless thread, because every singer under the sun from David Cassidy to Noddy Holder and Peter Hammill to Janis Joplin gets mentioned .

Yes, Jagger was ok, but certainly not in the same league as some of the others here.

Mike Patton is another outstanding vocalist.

I would love to be that ok.
So can he still be my favourite with his lack of achievements?
How do Winwood, Cocker, Burdon & Rodgers grab you?

What do mean, lack of achievements? I think you're being overly sensitive.

Those others singers don't interest me.

No. Pointing out that he's not vocally in the same league as some of the others here (who are exceptional) is not knocking him. Again, you're being overly sensitive.

Some random thoughts about my favorite ones in the list:

Roger Daltrey: sometimes I feel his talent is overlooked. Few voices have aged so well.
Robert Plant: some of his manierisms are not for me, but he was absolutely great with Zep.
Freddie Mercury: one of the best voices I've heard. What he does in Innuendo, given his physical condition, is heroic.
Ozzy Osbourne: great singer while he was in Sabbath (particularly during 1971-1975). Zero interest in his solo career.
Ian Gillan: another gifted voice, he screamed a bit too much for my taste, though. Nowadays, ee can sing new songs suited for his vocal range just fine, but he should leave the old classics alone.
Alice Cooper: I just love his singing. I'm not interested in anything post-Dada (1983).

As the title asks the favorite, I would vote for Roy Orbison or Sam Cooke, had I the choice. In their absence from the options, my vote goes to the one I grade as the best and most versatile: Freddie Mercury.
