Part of me always thought Ambrosia was borderline prog rock. If Supertramp and Kansas are prog rock then maybe I'm not too far off base.

    Anyway, I went:

    A.P.P.
Floyd - somewhat reluctantly since I could've included them in my statement above
    Yes

While well aware all history has placed Floyd as "progressive" their goals and intents and most especially my god the musicianship and the way it was used of their players makes them a different thing than say your Yeses or Crims or Tulls or ELPs.

But I know this fight is long lost. "Space rock" sure, but they just aren't as daring, nimble, and experimental as actual players to be prog if those others are thought to define what it meant. (And I am a big Floyd fan, semi-big at least.)

I went for King Crimson, Yes and Jethro Tull. I think they are the most representative of prog. Genesis had two different prog/pop phases, ELP made "Love Beach" and APP is kind of poppy...

Crimson, for intensity, longevity, and creativity; Genesis, for double drums, the PG era, and a college obsession; and Yes, because of The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge.
Love Rush, Pink Floyd and certain periods from the other bands, but the three above are the tops.

I'm not a huge prog fan generally but:

#1: Genesis: One of my absolute favorite artists. Every period. Fantastic, original songwriting.
#2: Yes: One of my father's favorite bands and very much a part of my upbringing.
#3: Pink Floyd: Are they prog? I dunno. I love their albums from Dark Side through The Wall very much.

I also like Jethro Tull and some ELP (mostly the Greg Lake stuff).

I voted Crim, Yes and JT. As much as I love Pink Floyd, I have never considered them to be Prog, they are not good enough as musicians to be thought of as so.
