The Partridge Family - Together (Havin' a Ball) (1970)

This was originally to be the theme song to the TV show, and appeared twice in the pilot episode. David Cassidy and Shirley Jones do not appear on it. The Ron Hicklin Singers handle the vocals and fragments of the Wrecking Crew play the instruments. Cassidy eventually talked producer Wes Farrell into letting him sing on the records, but not before this was recorded. Truth be told, there isn't much difference between this and the "real" Partridge Family...

Okay--are we going to play semantics all day? Maybe the "song" itself is not well-known to the general public, but Stone's fans know it, and it is noteworthy for the reasons I listed above.

I'm not sure how much he sang overall, but it's Don Brewer on GFR's "Some Kind of Wonderful," not Mark Farner.

It's not semantics it's the question asked. People who know their entire 60s catalog, apart from perhaps some B sides, know it. Nobody else knows it.
Satanic Majesties is about the last of their 60s albums most people pick up, nobody bought the single, it's not on any compilations and doesn't get played on the radio.

Paul does the lead vocal on Secret too, which wouldn't be as well known as Souvenir, though it was a single. He also sings the verses and chorus of (Forever) Live and Die, which is fairly well known, though Andy helps out on the chorus.

A few of Depeche Mode's most well-loved songs are sung by Martin Gore, who wrote them. Offhand, I'd suggest Somebody, A Question of Lust and Home would be the most well known of the singles.

Popular to me and all the people who started a band after listening to the VU:

    Femme Fatale - Nico
    Venus in Furs - Nico
The Gift - John Cale (spoken word)
Who Loves the Sun - Doug Yule

How Many Say I - Van Halen, sung by a warbling toad.

Not a hit, not even released as a single, but deserves mention as something you cannot 'unhear' once you've heard it.

I would consider Nico their front person when she was in the band. She was the one with her name in the album title and clearly their visual focal point.
Personally, I started collecting Nico albums after listening to that VU album. Never bothered to get the rest of the VU catalog apart from a compilation.

Is there singing on PRAW? I thought it was spoken word. And is it popular? I've only ever heard it once, and that was plenty.

Isn't Townshend also kind of a frontman for The Who and sang a lot?

I forgot the "popular" part of the title. Yeah, PRAW wasn't really a very good song, and it came first to mind.

And yes, I think "Stranglehold" is a good example because it is Ted Nugent's most famous song, but it is sung by Derek St. Holmes.

As for Townshend, he did sing some songs, but he was primarily a guitarist and songwriter.

However, whenever I hear this song on the radio it is the later live version sung by Cronin.

I think The Who kind of fit, because Roger was the clear front man and sang on all the big hits. A Legal Matter sung by Pete was a hit.

The album title was the Velvet Underground & Nico, not Nico and the Velvet Underground. She was an extra. She sang on 3 of the 11 songs. Personally, I bought Nico records AND VU records after listening to the album, when her guest stint was over. So, I'm sticking with me.
