Thank you toddrhodes that was exactly the kind of info I needed. :) Sounds like I will have to order the new In Absentia also (Deadwing just received today).

What do you mean by we? Where can this be found? I have the original DVD-A.

I mean I corrected the phase issues with the approval of Steven Wilson, thanks to some members here reporting it to me.
This corrected version of the mix has not been released (yet?).

Gotcha. Is it as simple as dropping the 5.1 files into audacity and reversing the subwoofer channel phase? This was done on the first release of "Pale Communion" by Opeth, it too had an issue. Cheers!

Yup, sure enough that did the trick. ;)

The centre channel is also out of phase.

Yeah, IIRC, there were two things to fix. I'll check my files.

So can I trade in my old DVD-A discs for a discount on the new ones? They really should do something for the people that have already bought these and the new versions have better mastering.

Wouldn't it be cool if it worked like that? Every old disc would be traded for a discount on the latest remaster.
I guess a lot of Classic Rock acts would have something to worry about... And MoFi and a lot of other labels would be out of business.

Welp, guess i have to play the waiting game for the CD version. I think business wise, they're trying to get much money from vinyl records then release to CD.

I'm hoping once SW wraps up the U.S. leg of his current tour he'll announce ETAs for Deadwing and In Absentia CDs, along with the Blu-Ray of the Royal Albert Hall performance.

BTW, if you get a chance to see him on this To The Bone tour, do it.

News on the Porcupine Tree reissues, and much more!
Steven Wilson: “Every time I go on stage, I can get shot”

Any news about the Porcupine Tree reissues?
-Yes, in two or three years I would like to launch some special versions of “In absentia” (2002) and “Deadwing” (2005), with three or four CD’s. I have my sketches of the songs, demos of tracks that did not end up on the records, live material, B sides, things that we did in those periods, videos, surround remixes … a lot of material. I would also add texts about the recording, photographs and so on. Those are going to be huge projects, so I hope that people hold on until they come out.

I just took the 5.1 channels and remixed them to 2. If I leave the .1 channel phase unchanged, the low bass is louder (both to my ears and in the frequency response analyzer) than if I reverse the phase on that .1 channel. To me, that suggests the phase is correct as is?

Interesting, but does this mean we will not see CD re-releases of In Absentia and Deadwing this year? The question is not really directed at you, Albert. Thanks for the link to the very cool article.

Really interested in his comments about new material. If i had to guess his new direction i would think punk electronica. He loves his new guitar and little amp and excelled in concert thrashing out stripped back versions of songs. I guess he will also be writing using this set up on tour. His Prince reference points towards more Song Of I type material. Should ruffle a few more feathers.....

We now have re-releases. But not remasters.

Ah, these slipped out rather quietly:
I see that Andy Van Dette is very prominently credited as the mastering engineer on these (so as to avoid confusion, no doubt). It's a shame we'll have to wait so long for proper digital versions of these albums.

Thanks for the details. I would have thought these were the remasters. Oh well.

This makes it sound like we won't get them till 2020 or 2021:
But maybe that's just for the super deluxe editions? Perhaps no-frills remasters will indeed come out later this year.
