George Best was also in the Topps series from 1977/78 that I collected as a kid (this time playing for Fulham).

I don't think I ever had this one. I also collected cards that were given away free with a certain
    brand of tea bags.

Greatest Phillies baseball moment ever...Rick Wise pitches no hitter vs Cinci Reds (and hits two homeruns). Raised his perceived value through the roof. Thereby allowing St.L to trade Lefty to Phils for Wise. Perhaps the most one sided trade in baseball history?

Yeah, just too bad the Phils were so awful at the time. Didn't Carlton account for almost half their wins that first year?

EDIT: just checked. Phils went 59 and 97 in '72, Carlton had 27 wins!

I always found the 1960's Leaf Star Trek bubblegum cards hilarious. Here's a good example:

Great year in Philly Sports...In 1972 Phils won 59 games with Lefty winning 27. Eagles were 2-12, Flyers missed playoffs when Jerry Meehan scored a goal w 4 seconds left in last game (Buffalo winning 3-2), and there was the 71-72 Philadelphia 76ers who were 9-73.

And now back to the actual thread about bubble gum cards.

I had some of those Batman paintings cards, got them at some kind of show in the early '80s.

Here's another series I'm interested in, Pirates Bold from 1961 with art by comics artist Kurt Schaffenberger... collect all the famous pirates! Here's Captain Kidd...

wanna hear a sad story? my friend and I bought 5 wax boxes of Mars Attacks in 1962 for 80 cents a box...we opened a few boxes to flip 'em! made a few set each as well...LOL...I kept 2 boxes sealed...they were gone before I was a teenager...where did they go? no idea! if only I knew their future value. : ( O' yea...the MA cards gave me nightmares! scared the heck out of me, but they were so cool!

we also bought a few wax boxes of Adams family cards in 1964? to make the poster! all gone as well...
