Local band from 2000 I believe. Great song. Enjoy.

The late Bobby Vee was known (if known at all!) for his numerous early 1960's teen idol hits, 38 having hit the top 100. However, he has literally 100's of recording from 25 early albums, with numerous rarities released later, plus 5 later career original CDs, the last being released in 2014. A few weeks ago, I posted a music video spotlighting an original song called Small Town America from a Christmas album released in 2003 called Up North December, which I have but is very rare and hard to find. There are portions of the also original title song and a jazzy version of White Christmas. I was very pleased that a poster who took the time to listen here responded very favorably. So I know at least one person liked this! Bobby has many many more great recordings, IMO!

A bonus with this video is you get to see Bobby and 2 of his sons miming to the recording in his beautiful recording studio in Minnesota in 2011. I have been to the studio.

Not my catchiest song and not real characteristic of the sound of most of the disc, but as an artistic statement this is the one I am most proud of. It is the title track on our debut CD and one of the two tracks I self produced. The rest of the tracks were produced by Lon Van Eaton.

If anyone cared to generously spare 8:18 from their day to check this out, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Although Bobby Vee's version is very good, I like this one better.

I saw this band live back in 2008 or 2009 at a local bar and never heard of them again. But, this song *still* gets stuck in my head all these years later.

I never tire of the sheer beauty of this tune. It made it to #2 on US Billboard in ‘69, but I never heard it until recently (hey, I was only 7 when it was released). But I’ve made up for lost time and listen to it every damn day.

    Hey man, please join us
Let's get a bottle of Mexican spirit
    Let's rock awhile
    Let's dance awhile

Hey man, the woman and the man
Get a cab, be on your way
    Let's rock awhile
    Let's dance awhile

You remind me of an old relative
    You there, the perch-faced man

Once he combed his hair with petroleum
And sang: "Off with all the filth in my head
off with all the filth in my head
    Let the bad thought burn!"

    Hey land, terrible land
Let's shake the soil off murderers' bones
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile

Hey night, you can come too
    Let Judas celebrate the fir
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile

This house still stinks of incest
But daughter avenged herself on the father
She put a Gillette blade ready down there
And daddy cried, oh Jesus he cried
    Died, oh Jesus he died
    Magnificently, just like he should

    Hey moon, hoodlum moon
    Scabby old eunuch face
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile
    Hey land, free land
Let's let loose the horse and the llama
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile

One Christmas granddad lost his glass eye
We were all searching for it
Nobody did look into the herring salad
When we dined, oh it was a strange feeling
Oh, it was a strange feeling
    Like someone was peeping

Hey road, where does it go
Up here there's just dark forest
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile

    Hey road, terrible road
We might bump into a hitchhiker girl
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile

That girl was murdered years ago
    And violated, naturally
She's been known to sometimes hitch a ride
And start to cry - oh Jesus, she cries
Screams, oh Jesus, she screams so bad
    Just like then

    Hey man, give up man
Let's get a bottle of Mexican spirit
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile
Hey man, the woman and the man
Get a cab, be on your way
Let's rock awhile, let's dance awhile

When the liqueur oozes in your rat brain
You're back with your kin again
When you wake up chopped in the yardwell
Just sing: "Off with all the filth in my head
off with all the filth in my head"
    Bad land
    Bad, bad land

I read them, especially when I start them. I usually start a thread like this when I'm looking for good music I haven't heard before. Great track by the way, never heard it before.
