I don't care to be all that high-tech. Oh, I have a rather impressive system, but I use these more than my 3 Technics SL-1200 MkIIs! These are wonderful for tracking 50s vintage mono LPs, 45s and 78s, and with a TEC TC-778 preamp, I can bypass the RIAA compensation so that 78s sound natural.

I have just got the Pro-Ject recently and am still trying to figure out how to best set up the turntables to complement each other. As my preamp has a mono switch, I was not planning to dedicate one of them to mono, but we'll see.

One thing that is apparent flicking through this thread is how much my music room looks like **** compared to some of these.

Nice setup, but looks like a difficult room to make your system sound well i.e hard surfaces, cubicle with one open side and listening position direct against the wall/glass. No problems with imaging and (early) reflections?

Do you have a TV? Is it in another room? Is it attached to another system?

Cannot recall a basic (Cd player-receiver-speakers) system on this thread.

Not trying to be a "mellow harsher"; they look great.

I'm trying to decide between a Project Xtension 10 (same as yours I believe) and a rega RP 8 or maybe RP 10.

Is that an RP6 on the right?

Which do you prefer and why? What cartridges do you have on each table??

On the left is Pro-ject Xtension 9/Dynavector 10X5, on the right is Rega RP6/Nagaoka MP-150. There has been a major shakeup in my system over the past
few months, so I am still not sure which one I'll ultimately end up preferring.

All I can say for now is that, from the non-sound perspective (setup, features, ease of use etc.), either turntable is very nice, although neither is perfect and each has quirks that one has to learn to live with. If pressed, however, I'd have to give a nod to the Xtension 9.

As far as sound is concerned, it is still hard to say due to insufficiently broken in cartridges, ongoing loading refinement and tube rolling in the phono stage etc. but my initial impression is that the Xtension 9 is smoother and more refined, the RP6 is more lively and snappier. I prefer the Nagaoka cartridge to the Dynavector, so currently I am enjoying the RP6 sound with more of my records than the Xtension 9, but I am not done cartridge rolling, so it may change.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
