Damn fine there Erocka! Where’s the plinth from? How’s the heat on the rack above the LM? Cable box up there? Guessing you’ve spent some time on great jones street perhaps Also did I recall reading you are considering adding to or replacing the td 124with a Technics 1200? Might have been someone else.
Sorry to derail with more Aku Aku talk, but I lived a few doors down from one in Boston (Comm. Ave.) near the Hotel Elliot (corner of Mass. Ave.) in the early 70's. The bar rail was a lighted aquarium! Great food and drinks before going home after our shifts at The Chart House on Long Wharf. Back to our regularly scheduled thread.
The plinth is from Moldova (via eBay). I had them add two layers of birch ply to make it 6 total layers. I did have to rout a small section on the inside because it wasn't allowing the idler arm mechanism to go low enough for all the speeds. Not a big problem, though. There's is a bit of heat from the 518, as you would expect. But hell, that's a Time Warner/Spectrum cable box and I hate them, so not really worried if the box is getting damaged. And that was me who mentioned the 1200G. I'm just ready I think for a change and definitely want to return to a modern table. I've also never owned direct drive table before. I was aiming for the SP10R, but that was just priced well out of reach. This is also not a knock on the 124, as it is a fantastic sounding table. I've had the Thorens and Denon for a few years now. The Acoustic Plan was purchased in 2016 and the Kiseki was purchased last year.
I set up a little rig in the attic for playing the CD's and DVD's I've had in storage for god knows how long. The first CD spinner I've brought home in 8 years.
Beautiful system!!! I like the Abbey Road street sign. Wish I would've grabbed one when we were there.
I decided to go all silver, so my trusty Dual 604 turntable had to go. Now, I use a JVC L-A55 which besides being silver has exactly the size of my Yamaha receiver. So much for hearing with the eyes... And I downgraded seriously on the speaker side of things. The big Pilot towers are gone and at the moment I'm all active! The strange looking pseudo coaxial speakers are Philips MFB 544 and the HAL like glowing bigger speakers are Jamo MFB 90's from Denmark. MFB stands for Motional Feedback. There's some kind of piezo gimmick controlling the woofer, so these little babies have plenty of good bass. Active speakers are cool, but now I want to try tube amplification. Sometimes, I hate myself
I too am weak and easily swayed from the righteous path by shiny led lights, tactile buttons and large VU meters.
Fantastic stereo. I’ve had my 2235b since 2007. The only thing I wish these units had were more aux plugs. Be sure to send it to a repair shop to have the caps replaced, if necessary. It will make a notable difference.
The moment I bought my first "real" speakers there was no going back. Have been riding along happily ever since...
