And my literal man "cave". It ain't pretty but it sounds wonderful to me. edit: crap need to update this one as it doesn't have my current CD player in the rack.
I've got a very loud basement rig that I struggle with. The sound of my space just blows and it almost feels louder upstairs when I play it. It looks like you may also have an open rafter ceiling. Do you and have you done anything to to treat that?
Oh yeah, open rafter ceiling here as well. I have put insulation between all of my floor joists and luckily this part of the basement is at the end of the house away from most all of the living space. The dimensions of the room are good but yeah it's presented many challenges. Little by little I've addressed a lot of them but frankly I don't spend enough time in there to justify some more high-dollar solutions. The open cell foam on the back wall, the rug, and some corner treatments have helped a lot but I still deal with some obvious issues.
Love the Mitsubishi gear. I had the pre amp, analog tuner and 150 wpc dual mono amp with meters as a kid, handed down from my dad. Wish I still had them
Oh yeah, if you look at the Luxman Tuner/Preamp in the photo, it's tuned to 94.7 KSHE 95 Real Rock Radio!
Still running the DA-A10DC and DA-C20 tuner/preamp I bought new in 1978! The DA-A15DC, the meters, and the DP-EC2 TT along with 2 of their DA-R35 receivers and the Mitus rack I've added over the years.
Ok, looked them up now that I'm home DA-A15DC amp w/meters DA-P20 pre amp DA-F20 tuner I think my little brother has the amp in his basement, no idea where the rest of the pieces are. Oh well...
I would be very interested in the A15DC if you were considering finding it a home. Assuming it's in good physical shape. The DA series stuff from the mid to late 70's was very nice sounding stuff, and waaaaaay under the radar at the time. By 82' or 83' MELCO pretty much abandoned the US market (except for CD players and AV receivers) but it was well regarded and the following carried on with the original Diatone name in Japan.
I can talk to my brother, but this thing would be a bitch to ship to you from Jersey. Its heavy as hell. Don't think the meters are still around though.
Oh I know how heavy they are. Not a big deal, thought I would throw it out there. I would obviously cover the cost for professional packaging if you and your brother considered selling it. If so, please PM me some pics so I can get an idea of the condition. Any idea how long it's been since the beast was alive? Sorry everyone for the OT.............and now back to your regularly scheduled program.
Brings back memories... My father had these paired with stacked Ohm C2's and a Thorens turntable. Remember it sounding awesome in his attic stereo room when I was a kid in the 70's.
Dude, I needed that today. Cheers to your old man. He obviously knew what he heard and went down a very similar path as me. Thanks for posting that, you have know idea how much your pic means. Good times. Craig
