You have a RP6, Right? I wasn't even in the market for a new table and I loved my upgraded 6 but the RP8 demo just sort of showed up..... only had been 4 months at the dealer .... If I didn't get it I was still considering going to an MC Ania and their Aria stage. That would have been a buy for me. I bet that would have been an awesome improvement right there. Once I got the 8 with no cart upgrade about a month ago, I knew I had to get an MC soon...... I'm good for now but I am a design style freak too, so I long for the white platter on the RP10......
Yup, I currently have an RP6/Exact combo. I know it’s not delivering everything that can be had from my records but I settled on it after many years of upgrade after upgrade but never feeling satisfied. The Rega effectively got me off the merry-go-round and just let me enjoy my records. But like with any addiction, that bug is still in the back of my mind. Having less disposable income now than I did decades ago has also helped keep it in check! I still find myself tempted by a good deal like the RP 10 at my local dealer. I’m hoping someone else grabs it so it’s not even a factor anymore. Who knows, I may end up doing one more upgrade at some point but for now I’m living vicariously through your posts. Enjoy the new toys!!
That would look cool. You could see if the white Delrin platter from Groovetracer will work on your RP8. $350. Delrin Platter
They are indeed oh so capable, and play anything and everything very well. Just got the Rega P9 dialed in with its Ortofon Jubilee and put it up back to back with my Thorens 124 with 2m Black. Sadly the the Jubilee is heads ans shoulders above the 2m back , so we put a Ortofon Credenza Black onto the 124 and pow, it lept back ahead of the P9 with Jubilee. I had no idea what a difference a good MC cart would make! Dont get me wrong, the p9/Jubilee sounds gorgeous, its just the 124 with a credenza black ( same MC cart basically, just a later model) seems to have more flesh on the music and the bass goes much deeper. Such tough choices we must make in this pursuit of ours, and if your in Sydney Australia you can always drop by to spin some of the black stuff. I shall transfer the Jubilee onto the 124 at a later date
Thanks, Yes, nothing beats Live music no matter how good a system one has. Thanks, The PL-90 is by far the best purchase I have ever made and is so innovative for a turntable. Thanks, Yamaha make superb gear and there Pianos are second to none IMO. Thanks. Thanks.
Love those old P9’s. Beautiful decks. I actually bought one off A-gon after a long search, only it was destroyed in shipping. The seller just shipped it in it’s original box. Heartbreaking.
The look of the P9 and its white platter factored heavily into my choice. The polished tonearm was a big factor, too. And there was no way I was going to put a Delrin platter on my P5.
beautiful setup, pretty much my dream system, though i'd personally substitute the AMP/PREAMP for a C-90/91/M-90/91 combo, and the speakers for either a DSS-9, DSS-E10, or TZ-9 stereo pair. i'd probably also retain the F-91 tuner, but add the later F-93 as well...
Courses for horses......aesthetics is exactly WHY I put a GrooveTracer counterweight on my RP6. I also added the Delrin platter for a sonic improvement PLUS a preferred aesthetic.
Yes - it can be attributed to taste. For me, there’s a fine line between something that is beautiful and elegant or something similar that’s just a little too thick, not quite the right finish, or who knows what. For example, the polished RB1000 on the later P9 was a huge improvement over the RB900, in my view. The RP8 is considered by some to be better than the P9. I certainly wouldn’t trade straight up.
