Cool stuff, with the record player just at an arm's length, nice..! And what are those corner-traps/soundboards, looks pretty and effective.
As much as I love this thread, it's torture for me at the moment. In the three months since we had to move house, (in order) my CD player, cassette deck and turntable have all died. Relying on the radio for music isn't particularly rewarding.
Curious as to the piece of furniture your components are on (with the LP's underneath)? Please do tell!
What size room is this? It looks like my room 11x11 and I had to buy corner bass panels and panels for the side walls as well. How far is the speakers from your seating postion? I have Electrostatics now but want to find speakers that work in a small room but are full range like the ones you have. How is the soundstage? With my Martin Logans I have no depth even with them pulled away over two feet away from the back wall. Sorry for all the questions. Very Nice rig and room BTW.
I have been rearranging the living room recently (just last night too hence the photo). This is where I am at now. I think this actually sounds really good here. I can definitely get some good channel separation and it sounds great. Always could be better of course! Haha
The room is 12 x 11 with 9 foot ceilings. Very challenging from an acoustic perspective. I also have diffusion panels directly behind the loveseat (out of the shot). I find the full range floor standers work great in the room... due largely to the treatments, but they also have a downward firing bass port which helps. Soundstage is fine... it has plenty of width... width beyond the speakers... some depth but that is limited due to the room. The soundstage is very precise which is a hallmark of Proac speakers. Speakers are about 23 inches from the back wall and 24 from the sidewalls... approximately 8 feet apart and 8 feet from the listening position.
Thanks for the info I had panels behind my listening postion and all along the side walls and it was just to much absorption so I took the back wall down and and some of the side walls to even out the issue. I am def going to look at direct speakers like yours because I think the electrostatics just are not breathing enough.
I can see how the aesthetics could be polarizing, but it really is an amazing design. I've been fortunate to hear it in a couple different settings, and the table conveys an organic sound while providing all the musical details in a recording.
Well with the heat/humid weather I shut down (un-plug) my system July 1st, once the temp goes down the system will be plugged in again. I am missing my TT and records. The garden has my attention from May-September. sean
I want to do diffraction and diffusion though behind my listening chair. How do they sound? Wonderful stuff my friend. Please explain if they really help. I have tons of High and Low absorption and its great, tell me the other way of sending sound to a better place with those panels, Thankyou much, John M.
My panels are new and I installed them all right off the bat... sounds good to my ears, although I may experiment with selectively removing some of the panels to see how it affects things.
I love looking at all the different types of kit on display. Here's mine. iPhone pics so sorry about the quality. https://flic.kr/p/wq1eCL https://www.flickr.com/photos/39041593@N07/20155991981/in/dateposted-public/ If any one could grab the Url of these pics and post them properly then that would be great ! My iPad doesn't like doing it
I took off the panels from behind my martin logans and there was more croostalk and i had to turn up the volume more which in turn increased the distortion etc. i need a speaker with no back firing for such a small room reflections okay but not Bi-directional for sure.
