Yes, a lava lamp is fundamental prerequisite to an audio room. It shows that your atmosphere is a comforting, inviting and physically interesting, place to enjoy audio in.

But there is just one more little detail that tells everyone that you are a discerning audiophile, this... And now Here's Nipper!

Some photos of my humble setup. Most everything from Craigslist, except for the new (to me) AR XB I couldn’t resist from a local store last week. (Btw, unbelievable sonic upgrade from the DD Onkyo (CP-1055F) I’d been using before. Didn’t think I’d be so sold on belt drives but here I am lol. Going deeper into the rabbit hole ;) )

I’m planning on having the 517 looked at / refurbished in the next few weeks — I replaced a couple totally out of whack resistors when I got it, but finally have enough scratch to get it a professional once-over. Still, love how everything sounds :)

    WAY TO GO! Mazzy!

Since we are still an operating motel and about every square foot of usable space is covered in audio equipment, while my preference would be to have a very big "Nipper" like Mazy's, I don't see that as a possibility (yet).

Once I get a few more "upgrades" finished, then I will be where I want to be (for now), and I will bring in a lava lamp and a "Nipper".

  5. Yeah they are cool. @timztunz and I had a conversation about Nipper. I paid around $200 for it in the early 90s at an antique mall in Pasadena. He showed me that ebay has a couple starting around $900 and up now. I see someone repainted the ears on one with washable acrylic paint and is asking $1400.Did a good job. I keep debating about repainting the ears!?!?!?!

I like the weathered look. I wouldn’t repaint the ears.

Thanks. I’ve been putting off the trip to the frame shop. That place gets very expensive very quickly and I have a few pieces that need done. Until then nipper will hold bob in place.

+1. It’s called patina and it takes a lifetime to get there.

Amazing system. What are the two large boxes on either side of your equipment rack?

What threw me was you list 333 in your profile and I knew these amps weren’t that large! Thanks for clarifying.
