So, not a huge system by any means but this has been in use since I purchased it in 1999. It's a Sony HCD-EX1. It's been very reliable and I have had it opened up and made a repair or two on it myself. I have always thought of upgrading to a real system but this works nicely. Obviously I'm not an audiophile, but a music lover and I enjoy looking at other peoples amazing systems. I keep all my albums housed in an old antique dish cabinet found years ago.
Dude you have really cool stuff... But man hide those wires!!! It would make a great picture that much more awesome
GREAT write-up! I just fine-tuned the toe-in on my KEF LS-50's per your advice, and the imaging and focus has improved quite a bit.
Doug, I bet you could squeeze a pair of monitors on either side of that storage unit for a big upgrade in scale (which I think you'd appreciate given your apparent tastes. The Andrew Jones Pioneers can be had for 100 bucks...the stands being the more difficult purchase. They aren't pretty, though. Some older used Epos M5's would fit the bill and look much nicer. Enjoy!
One of my first systems in the seventies, sorry about the quality. The inner workings of my current Ayre CD player.
It's an Eastern Electric Minimax phono pre-amp. I've tried a number of good quality phono stages in my system but the Minimax is still my favorite.
Quick list... Dynavector P75, Synthesis Brio (mm only), Moon LP-5.3 and Moon power supply, Slee Reflex M, 47 Labs Phonocube and Power Humpty, Manley Chinook. Of that list, the only other one that I've kept is the 47 Labs.
Hold on; I owe you an apology. I misread your post as being an answer to the one above it. Sorry to have given your most accurate post the thumbs down.
I should also mention that while I really did enjoy the Chinook, I had some hum that I couldn't get rid of. Otherwise it is also a very worthy phono. The hum may have been system based, but I've had no such trouble with either the Minimax or the 47 Labs.
Love the gear! And the Kermit cushion! And... is that an original 'Aeroplane Flies High' boxset I can see on your top boxset shelf?
