  1. If only John Lennon hadn't been so convinced that "Revolution 9" should have been their next single and that it was the direction in which the band should have headed in...

This doesn't count (because it's only on the raw take, they faded it off for the album version), but I like the full ending the Monkees' "Daddy's Song", where the brass riff repeats a number of times, then the song dissolves into a nice (but too brief) little piano rendition of the chords, then comes to a close.

That's not true! He only wanted it as a b-side... and even then, not quite - he just wanted the long "Revolution 1" over two sides.

That I would have totally been on board with...Revolution 1 (Take 20) works...I love it. But Rev 9, while somewhat interesting, just grates.

  5. Geoof Emerick says otherwise in his book. According to him, at some point John Lennon said what I paraphrased in my previous post. I think he was so high on heroin when he said that, IIRC.

Dire Straits - On every street --- from 2:55 all the way to 5:04 (Coda)
Porcupine Tree - Lips of Ashes --- Outro starts at 3:20 and goes to 4:39 - The most beautiful guitar solo from Steven Wilson (IMHO)
Pink Floyd - High hopes --- 5:15 (start of the pedal steel solo to the bell at 8:32)
... and obviously Comfortably Numb (2nd Guitar Solo)
And if you think it's too long for an outro, try: Dream Theater - Pull me under (at app. 8:12)

Goodbye Stranger - Supertramp - the wah-wahed guitar solo that plays the song out has been a favorite of mine since '79.

I like the ending of "Somebody to Love". The rhythm and Jacks bass riff are so heavy and amazing to listen to. Not to mention Jormas lead out of the song.

The outro to Jimi's "Castles Made of Sand" is terrific.
