After the incredible spurt of creativity in the 90s from such brilliant songwriters like Jason Falkner,
Matthew Sweet, Chris Von Schneidern, Eric Matthews, the 2000s pale in comparison.

    Or did I miss something?

Since then aside from the above I have loved releases by Brendon Benson, Anne Soldaat and
    Jelle Paulusma

There must be others in the same style, please share.

Shoes are still alive and kicking. Their 2012 release Ignition is really good.

    New Pornographers' "Together"
Sean Lennon "Friendly Fire" - very moody/Jon Brion-esque

Records under the name P. Hux or Parthenon Huxley. Just found out about him from Al Kooper's New Music for Old People blog.

I can recommend the marked men, a bit garage-oriented but still in the vein of power pop.

Redd Kross put out a new album a couple of years ago - Researching The Blues - that is power pop heaven. Check out their earlier stuff (namely Show World, Phasehsifter, and Third Eye) for more of their poppier stuff.

The Figgs aren't really bubble-gummy power pop per se... more just a great band with incredible hooks. Some of their stuff is definite power pop, though. Sucking In Stereo from '00 is a good place to start.

...and I second the recommendation for Redd Kross!
Another great recent one is Sun Kill Moon by The Orange Peels.
