Mike Viola is the real deal. Here's a gem from his brilliant "Lurch" album. How this guy is not freaking huge is unanswerable.

Not to forget that Tommy Keene still hasn't made a bad record.

Herzog - Boys (this one I can actually thank some programming robot on a streaming service for the discovery) It's a little more album oriented but there are some great pop rock songs.

Warm Soda, and the previous incarnation called Bare Wires (especially Artificial Clouds and Idle Dreams), although the songs can be a little same-ish at times.

Sally is wonderful. It says something that Tommy Keene subbed as her bass player on tour, Kimberley Rew (Soft Boys/Katrina and the Waves) was on one of her albums, and she's been helped along by Britt Daniels of Spoon, and she's co-written an ep with Doug Gillard of GBV.

Portastatic's Bright Ideas album ('05) is also really good.

I'd say anything by Ted Leo (aka Ted Leo & The Pharmacists). About as awesome power poppy as you can get.

This recommendation is not purely power-pop but deserves to be heard:

The Running Jumps - The Consciousness Set

    released in 2013.

If I find a YouTube link when I get home from work I will post it!!!!!!

This is a fantastic thread! I'm especially impressed that many of these combos are bringing back the 1972 rockstar shag haircut (seriously). Also, it's a relief that The Biters sound good because that's the best band name ever.

We've talked about The Exploding Hearts over on the garage rock thread. They are indeed pretty great.

Interesting, as I don't know any of us would have made that connection.

That Mikal Cronin album on Merge is tremendous. On first listen, a couple of tracks did remind me of Sloan.

In case you didn't know, Chris Richards also is in The Legal Matters, whose debut CD will get a big release in November. I've got the self-released version and it's great. Chris wrote half the songs on the album.

I love this song. For those who don't know, Omnivore will release a Pugwash comp next week. Pugwash's first US tour begins next month, thankfully including two shows in Maine where I live.
