Looking to get some vinyl to saddle up next to The Records, The Nerves, The Plimsouls, Big Star, The Raspberries etc. Give me your power pop picks
The LP, sadly, is out of print (don't order it from the band's official website, the distributor is in limbo and has no stock), but I have been told they're working on a re-pressing, hopefully within the year. But in terms of power pop, this album is right at the top of the list for me. Other key tracks: "Password", "Camp Hill Rail Operator", "My Before and After", "Vegetable Row" The LP can still be had new from Discogs and the like (orange vinyl), but I have confirmation from the singer/leader that, once he gets a new distributor, there will be a re-press.
Search out the 1970 classic of the genre... 1.Hackamore Brick / One Kiss Leads To Another... If you can't locate an original in good listening condition the current Real Gone Label LP & CD are worthy substitutes... Not only is the album a essential pop masterpiece it is also one of Rocks finest works as well 2.The original 3 LPs from Lords Of The New Church are good hard garage pop also 3.Nick Lowe / Pure Pop For Now People (1978) another genre defining moment 4.Paul McCartney & Wings / Band On The Run (1973) pure pop for all people & McCartneys crowning solo achievement 5.Hoo Doo Gurus / Mars Needs Guitars (1985) more melodic garage pop circa London 1966 & 67
Based on bands you listed, here's one, The Rifles: No Love Lost. Cover is bright pink on white. Wanted to give you this song (She's Got Standards) & only upload I could find doesn't show cover. And, maybe, The Mock Turtles: Turtle Soup. (I'm not as familar with, but think it may fit your above-listed sounds.) - They sound similar to The Stone Roses; The Rifles probably better choice.
Woah that tsar is pretty jamming! Some great suggestions but am really looking at that great period between '78 and '82
I love the Records and am currently scouring Discogs for the first two, shades in bed and crashed and the 1978 demos Paying for the Summer of Love
That's a great album but I'd hardly call it power pop. It reminds me more of the Velvets than anything.
Both these open threads have lots of great suggestions: Name A Great Power Pop Tune Looking for recommendations for power pop from ~1977-1983
I'll direct you to The Wonder Stuff's first record The Eight Legged Groove Machine...."I didn't like you very much when I met you, and now I like you even less."
Loving this stuff!!! Much thanks. How about this one. Before The Dickies and Redd Kross there was this
