And what a swim it's been. An extraordinary talent.

I don't regard many albums as bonafide masterpieces, but I would rank The Hissing Of Summer Lawns up there with the best of Dylan, Young, Cohen, Costello, Reed, etc.

Agreed. "Blue" is the defining work, I think, but "Hissing" comes in No. 2 for me. What an adventure ... Glad you mentioned it, the album isn't all that well known.

I love Blue as well, but I guess I overlook it given the trajectory that follows, peaking with Hissing and Heirja. The run from Blue through to Heirja is nothing short of breathtaking and groundbreaking.

A classic run of albums from the early to mid seventies that matches any of the great sustained runs by the likes of Stevie, The Stones etc.
Get well soon Joni you've only just entered your entertaining eccentric years , and perhaps it's time to become a heavy vapor addict instead .

Glad to hear it's looking more hopeful than it did initially.

She's the same age as my Mum, so things like this are bound to make me reflect.

Just last week I was enjoying Joni's box set, "Love Has Many Faces" and I must say that she has talents that I'm still discovering, all these years later! I thank Graham Nash for originally turning me onto Joni, when I discovered that "Our House" was a song written about Joni and the home that they shared at the time. That song is so full of vivid detail, that it is hard to not imagine, that we have all sat in that house and seen the flowers in the vase.

With all of that, I wish Joni well with whatever may be ailing her.

I love Joni and wish her the very best.....her lyrics have wowed me for the last 40odd years:)
Don Juan's is my fave, followed by Court, Blue, Hissing, Clouds and Ladies.

  22. Come on, Joni, you can get through this, we're all behind you. I'm just listening to Court & Spark right now. All the very best and get well soon!

  23. My wife turned me on to Joni when we started dating, so she holds a special place in my heart. Favorite string of albums is from "Blue" to "Don Juan"... Here is hoping for the best.

In the top 5 of US solo performers. I enjoy her albums these days more than Dylan's.
