I saw a commercial for it and couldn't figure out anything about it... super-dark (yeah I know Mann likes that but still), color-timed way too blue, a closeup of a soybeans futures board and just a mish-mash of explosions and dudes running around in the dark (did I mention it was dark?). And then a bunch of dudes in Ebola suits moving in slow-mo. What the?

  5. From what I gather, 50 Shades of Grey is essentially The Story of O for yuppie gals and soccer moms. Pervy, but through a Harlequin lens and not likely to appeal to many men, other than maybe moderately kinky gays with gender identity issues.

Saw 'blackhat' on Sunday afternoon. I too thought it had topical appeal(hacker with shady past taken on by establishment) but after sitting through about half of it, looked around to see I was the only one there. Had the whole place to myself. Still enjoyed it, parts reminded me of Collateral-it was darker. I guess it will not be shown in Australian theatres(Did not know that Hemsworth was from there) but go to dvd. https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/26054339/hemsworth-film-pulled-from-oz-cinemas/

    "star power of Chris Hemsworth".

Maybe when he's dressed up as Thor, but that's about it.

I love being the only one in the theater. It doesn't happen too often, though.

Movies released in late 2014 that earned most of their money in 2015. Several seem to be doing ok relative to cost....
American Sniper: production budget c. $60m/box office so far $163m (and this figure will maybe double)
    Selma: $20m/$34m
    Wild: $10m?/$34m
    Big Eyes: $10m/$20m
    Unbroken: $65/$132

When that happens, I usually wince and say, "oh, this is sad. Too crowded, let's go home."

Who would have thought that Sniper would be such a mega-hit, not me.

I have not seen the movie yet, but all the political banter seems to be fueling it. Most of the reviews I've read say it's apolitical and doesn't take sides, go figure.

I don't think the commentary is about the movie 'taking sides' as such, but more about the factual omissions it chose to make to tell the story.

MI5 moves up to July from late December! No one wants to go up against Star Wars. Expect many more flicks to move. Star Wars will have about 8 weeks all to itself. MI5 probably just made an extra 50 million from the move.

God help me, Ted 2 looks hilarious. I was very skeptical about the first one until I saw it, and that movie's got at least 50 laughs in it. That's about 47 more than A Million Ways to Die in the West.

    Unless it really, really sucks.

I'm hoping it's good and moving to July is a good indication. The MI flicks are a decent franchise. Can't decide if the Bourne flicks are better or the MI series... maybe they both suck and I just suck... lol

It also doesn't look like a tired retread of the original idea. If that ends up really being the case, I think that'll be key to the movie's success. I really like the first one, and the new trailer made me laugh. I'm down.

There is exactly 1 thing wrong with Blackhat, and it's

... that the climactic moment is Thor bellowing to himself

"IT WAS TIN, YOU BASTARD! IT WAS TIN ALL ALONG! TIIIIIIIIIIN!"

And, OK, the "love story" is incredibly stupid too. Otherwise, it's a good movie, with some breathtaking Mann-style action sequences.
