Just discovering Capt Beefhart. Streaming Safe as Milk this morning on Tidal and realized I need this in my collection. Consulting Discogs, I'm not willing to pay the prices for the early pressings. Most of the represses have negative comments regarding the sound quality.

Can any forum members make recommendations on this one?

Mono all the way. The Sundazed mono reissue from 2013 is one of the best they've done. It's well regarded around here. It also comes with a beautiful repro bumper sticker! The guy who did the layout, Jon Busey-Hunt is a member here.

Another fairly cheap option - I have the UK reissue on PRT from the early '80s (PRT ‎– NCP 1004). According to Discogs, you may be able to get one for about $15.oo.

I'll put in another vote for the Sundazed mono, fantastic. It's the only way to get the mono mix on wax apart from the prohibitively expensive US original. Any English mono copies you see are all fold downs.

The Sundazed mono. I wish all life's decisions were so obvious.

Thanks for the overwhelming recommendations on the Sundazed Mono. I've contacted my local b&m to see if they can still order me a nice new copy.

I bought a copy of this pressing today for virtually nothing. Very nice sounding stereo copy. Adding my recommendation.

Since these 2015 posts, the Sundazed mono has proven to be a needle drop with stereo CD fold-down sections Franken-stiched in.

I never though it sounded good anyway.
